Plant Engineer

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC

The Plant Engineer is responsible for engineering and project support for process and specialty gas operations, and plant and equipment maintenance. The Plant Engineer performs project engineering work from design to start-up in accordance with Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. policies. Participates on project and technical teams and provides technical guidance to plant operations. The Plant Engineer works independently and makes technical decisions based on full awareness of viability, cost, and other benefits. Plant Engineer will ensure all plant and equipment is inspected, tested, and maintained according to Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. standards and manufacture standards. Plant maintenance tech will report to Plant Engineer.

With limited supervision, the Plant Engineer creates design layouts and equipment lists. Plant Engineers work with Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. employees and vendors to determine the best and safest design. Communicates and collaborates as needed with project management, customers, operations, procurement, safety, and business groups. Develops and implements innovative solutions for process, plant, and project-based problems. All activities will require excellent organization and communication.

Exempt, salaried positions require a consistent on site presence during the company's core operating hours to support business operations and team needs. Due to the nature of exempt roles, work hours may extend beyond the standard schedule when necessary to meet organizational demands, leadership responsibilities, and business objectives. This may include occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends, depending on the role and the needs of the business, manager will confirm shift expectations.

What you will be doing:

  • Develops project plans by reviewing project proposals and objectives

  • Determines project requirements by reviewing product requirements, customer specifications, and performance standards

  • Determines project schedule by reviewing project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements

  • Executes project plan and maintains project schedule, monitors project progress; coordinates activities; resolves problems

  • Responsible for resolving engineering issues with proposals or projects

  • Controls project plan, schedule changes, and recommends actions

  • Control's project costs and approves expenditures

  • Ensures compliance with Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. policy and government regulations

  • Participate in final field safety inspections

  • Troubleshoots plant process equipment problems and implements solutions

  • Executes various aspects of the Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. Safety Program

  • Oversee and Direct Hazardous and Universal Waste activities within the facility

  • Schedules and coordinates repair, modification and preventive maintenance operations

  • Oversees location Contractor Safety Program

  • Oversees location's Process Safety Mechanical Integrity Program

  • Assists in the development and review of standard operating procedures

  • Participates in HAZOPs and FMEAs

  • Location liaison with corporate process safety group

  • Oversees and/or performs new equipment installations

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred)

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Engineering

  • Experience managing projects preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience creating mechanical equipment and related drawings using AutoCAD (2D) and Inventor (3D and 2D)

  • Must have a positive attitude, be willing to quickly adapt to changing situations, have strong communications skills.

  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter and have the ability to work independently and as a leader or participant on a team.

  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
