Job description

North Bay Apparel is seeking a Production / Design Assistant to join our Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s Activewear team. This unique position reports to the Design Director and supports the entire Design Team as needed.


Production / Sample Management Responsibilities:

  • Daily tracking, communication & follow-up with overseas suppliers for all SMS, PP & Top samples
  • Receive & open incoming packages daily
  • Log all samples received into tracking chart
  • Review samples with design team
  • Process each sample according to buyer guidelines, including filling out and attaching any necessary forms
  • Prepare all outgoing packages of samples for FedEx pickup
  • Compose emails to buyers of samples that are sent out
  • Communicate with factory on all approval items including lab dips, bulk fabrics, print patterns, and trims, collaborating with design team as needed
  • Keep electronic and physical records of production approvals by season; Follow up with factories on rejected submits
  • Upload and bi-weekly review of Royalty Zone platform to ensure licensor approvals
  • Meet all deadlines as per seasonal calendar

Design Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Design Director in creating original designs and takedowns from the Menโ€™s & Ladies lines to create kids' CAD and samples
  • Create and update tech packs for the kidsโ€™ line
  • Assist Senior Designers in creating CADs and tech packs when needed
  • General support to the designer or tech designer as needed (cut swatches, communicate approvals to factory, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Highly organized / Great communication skills / Detail-Oriented
  • Must be a team player, open to taking direction, and able to work well under pressure
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of fashion industry experience (preferably in design)
  • Able to multitask and switch gears as needed
  • Proficiency in MS Suite, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop
