These skills are crucial for efficiently supporting the production designer and ensuring the visual aspects of a project are executed smoothly and creatively.

What are some common challenges faced by a Production Design Assistant and how can they be managed effectively?

Production Design Assistants often juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as sourcing props, managing budgets, and ensuring timely set preparations. Tight deadlines and fast-paced changes can be challenging, especially during pre-production and filming. Building strong relationships with vendors and being adaptable to last-minute adjustments can also help ensure smooth workflow and successful project outcomes.

Job description

Sock Club is looking for an Austin based Production Design Assistant to join our creative team and help us deliver the highest quality custom socks in the promotional products industry. Known for our attention to detail, fast turnaround times, and standout designs, we're seeking someone who can help our designers keep the creative pipeline moving, without sacrificing quality.
This is a production-first role. The bulk of your day will be spent on revision-based work driven by requests from our Sales and Operations teams - not starting designs from scratch. You'll prepare production-ready files for our mills, handle design revisions, and prep design assets that keep our socks looking their best from concept to customer. If you take pride in precision, thrive under pressure, and get satisfaction from moving a high number of tasks through to completion efficiently, this role is a great fit. If you're primarily looking to grow a design portfolio or take on open-ended creative work, it may not be the right match.
ย

Responsibilities:

  • Design Support: Assist Sock Production Designers with design revisions and asset creation, including logos and templates.
  • Prepare Files for Production: Prepare artwork for production, ensuring adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Quality Control: Review designs for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with client requirements before sending to production.
  • File Management: Organize and maintain our digital asset libraries, creating new icons, patterns, and artwork to add to our robust library.
  • Task Management & Communication - You'll receive a steady stream of requests from Design, Sales, and Ops, and a big part of the role is managing them effectively: triaging what's urgent versus what can wait and setting clear timeline expectations with stakeholders.
  • Creative Problem Solving: Offer innovative solutions to design challenges and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with team members to understand project requirements. You'll work most closely with our Sales team, as well as Operations and Marketing. Being clear, organized, and responsive across all of these relationships is core to this role.
  • Team Support: Jump in where needed. Help with overflow work, cover tasks during absences, and share ideas to improve processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in a related field
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Adobe Products (Photoshop and Illustrator)
  • Sharp attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Strong organizational and time management skills - you'll juggle a high volume of requests at competing urgency levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for managing expectations
  • Bonus: Print production experience
  • A positive, adaptable attitude - this role rewards people who find flow in repetitive, precise work and who don't need a lot of creative autonomy to feel engaged

Benefits:

  • Salary: $45,000
  • Open PTO Policy: Recharge when you need to.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Weโ€™ve got you covered with health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401K Match: Plan for your future with our competitive match.
  • Casual, Inspiringย Work Environment: Join a team that loves what they do and brings good vibes to work.
  • Hybrid Work Week: Enjoy a flexible work setup with in-office days Tuesday through Thursday in our Austin office. This role is not fully remote.ย

Unsure about your qualifications?

You should apply anyway!

LinkedIn examined their users' job search behavior and found that women are less likely to apply for a job that they aren't fully qualified for, while men will apply if they meet only some of the desired qualities.

Whether you fit into these two categories, or somewhere else on the spectrum, take a chance on that application. You may just be the perfect fit!
