A production associate’s job duties depend on the industry in which they work. If you’re a manufacturing production associate, then your responsibilities include maintaining production equipment and assemblies, ensuring quality control, overseeing manufacturing personnel, ordering materials, monitoring packaging and shipping of the product, and handling clerical tasks like work orders and documentation. As a production associate in the film and TV industry, your duties include hiring and scheduling actors and technical staff, resolving technical challenges such as equipment failure, and maintaining relationships with suppliers and vendors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Production Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Production Associate, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, attention to detail, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with assembly line machinery, inventory management systems, and safety protocols such as OSHA standards is typically required. Strong teamwork, reliability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills ensure efficient production workflows, product quality, and a safe work environment.

What are some typical challenges Production Associates face when adjusting to fast-paced manufacturing environments?

Production Associates often encounter challenges such as adapting to rapidly changing production schedules, maintaining high attention to detail while working efficiently, and learning to operate various machinery safely. Additionally, they must quickly become familiar with strict quality standards and safety protocols. Collaborating effectively with team members and supervisors is essential to ensure smooth workflow and meet production targets.

Job Title: Production Associate
Job Description

The Production Associate supports laboratory and production operations by preparing and testing oil samples using established oil analysis techniques. This role involves sample layout, preparation, and operation of analytical instruments, as well as basic troubleshooting of instrumentation. The Production Associate works efficiently to deliver accurate, high-quality results while minimizing repeated tests and ensuring proper handling and disposal of laboratory waste.

Responsibilities

  • Apply oil analysis techniques in the preparation and testing of oil samples for various applications.
  • Organize and lay out samples according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Prepare samples for analysis, ensuring accuracy, cleanliness, and proper labeling.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation and follow defined procedures for analysis.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on instrumentation to resolve minor issues and maintain workflow.
  • Complete all assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner to achieve high-quality, reliable results while minimizing the need for repeat testing.
  • Handle laboratory waste responsibly and dispose of it in the appropriate containers according to guidelines.
  • Use touch screens and computer systems to input data, track samples, and follow work instructions.
  • Perform additional related duties as needed to support the satisfactory completion of production and laboratory tasks.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to work with production processes in a small manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate sample preparation and analysis.
  • Comfort and proficiency with touch screens and computer-based systems.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and work instructions consistently.
  • Capability to troubleshoot basic issues with instrumentation under guidance.
  • Time management skills to complete tasks efficiently and meet production and testing timelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills, including navigating software and entering data using touch screens and standard interfaces.
  • Willingness to learn oil analysis techniques and laboratory procedures through on-the-job training.
  • Flexibility to train on a first shift schedule and then transition to a mid or second shift as needed.
  • Strong reliability, work ethic, and character, with a focus on quality and accountability in daily tasks.
Why Work Here?

This opportunity offers a stable role in a small, collaborative production environment where training is provided and development is supported. You can build hands-on experience with laboratory and production processes while working with modern touch-screen and computer-based systems. The schedule structure provides predictability, and shift differentials recognize the value of working non-standard hours. You will join a team that values attention to detail, quality work, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small manufacturing and production environment that includes laboratory-style work with oil samples and analytical instrumentation. You will regularly use computer screens, touch screens, and basic computer programs to complete tasks and record data. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, with primary coverage on second shift (for example, approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), and initial training provided on first shift before transitioning to a mid or second shift schedule (such as 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. to around 7:00 p.m., depending on operational needs). The environment is structured and process-oriented, with clear procedures for sample handling, analysis, and waste disposal.
