THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Production Artist with a strong background in digital print to join our production team. Reporting to the Art Service Supervisor, the ideal candidate brings a hands-on understanding of how digital printing equipment interprets color and knows how to translate that knowledge into precise, press-ready art file adjustments. Along with this, the artist is responsible for preparing finished artwork according to customer specifications for final decoration on a variety of deco types including print, deboss, laser engraving and heat transfer. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, adjust, and optimize art files for digital print production, ensuring color output aligns with brand standards and customer expectations.
  • Make informed CMYK adjustments to compensate for device-specific color behavior.
  • Collaborate closely with the press operators and production team to understand machine behavior and calibrate file adjustments accordingly.
  • Prepare finished art files for various deco techniques per order specifications.
  • Prepare color separations for production team.
  • Meet department quota standards for a fast-paced high-volume environment.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Active participant in our Continuous Improvement process.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by management.


REQUIREMENTS

Spot Color to CMYK Conversion & Press Matching

  • Understanding of PMS (Pantone Matching System) spot colors and their CMYK conversion equivalents.
  • Proven ability to manually fine-tune CMYK values — adjusting individual ink channels — to match a target spot color on a specific press configuration.
  • Understanding of how variables such as substrate, ink load, press speed, and RIP settings affect final color output.


Production File Preparation

  • Ability to identify and resolve issues that appear visually correct on screen but will cause output problems on-press.
  • Strong organizational skills in a fast-paced production environment.


Required Software Proficiency

  • Adobe Illustrator — advanced
  • Adobe Photoshop — proficient
  • Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) - proficient
  • PC – proficient


Additional Requirements

  • Ability to utilize Continuous Improvement concepts and philosophies on a regular basis.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) recommended but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Must be able to independently manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to meet/exceed established production standards.
  • 2-4+ years’ prior experience in a production art or prepress role within a screen print, commercial print, or digital print production environment.
  • Demonstrated portfolio or work samples showing color matching and press compensation experience.
