What is a product writer?

Product Writers are professionals who create clear, concise, and engaging written content that describes a company's products or services. Their work includes writing product descriptions, user manuals, marketing copy, and support documentation to help customers understand and use products effectively. They often collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to ensure accuracy and alignment with brand messaging. Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of the target audience are crucial for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Writer, you need strong writing and editing skills, a solid understanding of product features, and experience in technical or marketing communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), collaboration platforms, and tools like Google Docs or Figma is typically required. Job description

About WRITER

WRITER is where the world's leading enterprises orchestrate AI-powered work. Our vision is to expand human capacity through super intelligence. And we're proving it's possible – through powerful, trustworthy AI that unites IT and business teams together to unlock enterprise-wide transformation. With WRITER's end-to-end platform, hundreds of companies like Mars, Marriott, Uber, and Vanguard are building and deploying AI agents that are grounded in their company's data and fueled by WRITER's enterprise-grade LLMs. Valued at $1.9B and backed by industry-leading investors including Premji Invest, Radical Ventures, and ICONIQ Growth, WRITER is rapidly cementing its position as the leader in enterprise generative AI.

Founded in 2020 with office hubs in San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, Austin, Chicago, and London, our team thinks big and moves fast, and we're looking for smart, hardworking builders and scalers to join us on our journey to create a better future of work with AI.

About the role

In a world where every AI company sounds the same, WRITER is building something different. We believe a great brand doesn’t just look good. It earns trust, sharpens conviction, and gives people the confidence to act. We’re looking for someone who believes that just as deeply as we do.

Reporting into the VP of brand and communications, you’ll drive ownership of the WRITER brand, internal and external, from campaign strategy to the systems that make great brand work scalable. You’ll help shape how the world sees us, how our employees feel about us, how our product expresses us, and how AI makes all of that more powerful. If you’re a brand leader who thinks in systems, ships with taste, and is genuinely excited about what agentic AI makes possible for marketing, this is your role.

What you’ll do
  • Brand strategy and campaigns - You’ll lead brand campaign strategy from idea through activation — not just the brief, but the conviction behind it. You’ll develop concepts worth executing, manage the work end-to-end, and hold the bar for what on-brand actually means. You’ll ensure every campaign builds something cumulative: a brand that people recognize, trust, and root for. You’ll partner closely with product marketing on integrated go-to-market campaigns, ensuring brand and demand work in lockstep.

  • The full customer and employee journey - Great brands don’t live in one channel. You’ll activate WRITER’s brand across the customer journey, and bring the same intentionality to the employee experience. Onboarding, all‑hands, internal comms: the brand lives there too, and you’ll make sure it shows up with the same quality and care.

  • AI-native brand operations - WRITER brings the power of agentic marketing to the world’s best brands — and we run on our own platform. You’ll own WRITER’s internal WRITER instance as the operational backbone of our brand: encoding our voice, guidelines, and creative standards into brand skills that the entire company relies on to produce high-quality, on‑brand work at scale. You’ll build and maintain the skill library that makes WRITER employees faster, sharper, and more consistent — without losing what makes us distinctively us. You’ll partner with product and engineering to translate that front‑line experience into product insights, acting as an in‑house advisor to make WRITER stronger for brand leaders everywhere.

  • Brand in the product - WRITER’s biggest brand touchpoint is the product itself. You’ll work with product and design to ensure our brand identity is felt inside the platform: in the copy, the experience, the moments that tell customers they’re working with something built with genuine craft and conviction.

  • Agency management - You’ll be WRITER’s day‑time lead for our brand agency — setting the brief, driving the relationship, and making sure partners deliver work that actually moves us forward, giving them a clear point of view to work from.

  • Measurement and brand intelligence - What doesn’t get measured doesn’t get protected. You’ll define and own the metrics that matter — brand awareness, perception, campaign performance, pipeline influence — and use those signals to continuously sharpen strategy. You’ll conduct ongoing competitive and market research to keep WRITER’s brand ahead of the conversation, not just part of it.

  • Brand Central: the system behind the brand - You’ll build and own WRITER’s brand repository, creating a single, scalable source of truth for assets, guidelines, templates, and toolkits. Working hand‑in‑hand with the creative team, you’ll turn our brand into something the whole company can activate confidently without compromising consistency. You’ll also champion brand adoption across the organization, running enablement that makes internal teams genuine brand ambassadors.

What you need
  • You’ve spent 7+ years building brands that stand for something, ideally at a high-growth B2B technology company where brand was a strategic imperative.
  • You’ve owned the strategy and the execution. You know the difference between a brand that looks good and a brand that creates belief, and you’ve built the latter.
  • You’re genuinely excited about agentic AI and its role in brand, and you bring a real point of view. You understand how AI can encode brand standards, scale creative output, and protect consistency without flattening distinctiveness. Ideally, you’ve worked with AI tools in a brand context and have opinions about what works and what doesn’t.
  • You’ve managed agencies well, which means you’ve written briefs that are actually useful and given feedback that makes work better instead of blander.
  • You’ve worked in or alongside product teams, and you understand how brand translates into product experiences. You’ve fought those fights and know how to win them.
  • You’ve built brand systems that scale — asset libraries, guidelines, repositories, brand skills or AI‑powered toolkits — that genuinely help teams create on-brand work instead of just paying lip service to the guidelines.
  • You’re fluent in brand metrics. You know how to measure what matters, connect brand performance to business outcomes, and use data to defend and evolve strategy.
  • You communicate with precision and confidence. You can write a sharp brief, present a campaign with conviction, and tell a stakeholder why brand investment matters without resorting to platitudes.
  • You operate with low ego and high standards. You know how to build shared ownership and bring people along, because brand only works when the whole company believes in it.
Benefits & perks (US Full‑time employees)
  • Generous PTO, plus company holidays
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family
  • Paid parental leave for all parents (16 weeks)
  • Fertility and family planning support
  • Early-detection cancer testing through Galleri
  • Flexible spending account and dependent FSA options
  • Health savings account for eligible plans with company contribution
  • Annual work‑life stipends for:
    • Wellness stipend for gym, massage/chiropractor, personal training, etc.
    • Learning and development stipend
  • Company-wide off‑sites and team off‑sites
  • Competitive compensation, company stock options and 401k
