Job description
Severe mental illness affects over 15 million adults in the United States. Schizophrenia. Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar I. Treatment-resistant depression. These are the conditions the rest of healthcare has systematically failed to build for.
What makes this problem different from most of healthcare is that the tools to solve it do not exist. The clinical protocols, the measurement science, the precision medicine, the technology to deliver coordinated longitudinal outpatient care for this population. None of it has been built. This is a frontier problem, and it requires frontier science and care delivery to solve.
We are developing all of it. The care, the science, the technology.
Product Operations Manager
San Francisco, CA (In-person)
The Problem
Who We Are
Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation delivering specialty outpatient care for people with severe mental illness through high-acuity, in-person clinics nationwide.
Our integrated model brings psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community support together under one roof. Leading health systems-including NewYork-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit-collaborate with us to expand this level of care.
Alongside care delivery, we are building the science and technology the field has long lacked-proprietary clinical protocols, novel measurement, and an AI-driven data platform designed for severe mental illness.
The impact: fewer hospitalizations, greater stability, and more people living meaningful lives in their communities.
The Team
We are clinicians, operators, technologists, and scientists who chose Amae because the problem is hard and the stakes are real. We are not interested in incremental improvements to a broken system
Our teams work cross-functionally because the work demands it. The psychiatrist informs the product roadmap. Engineers understand the clinical complexity their technology must solve. Researchers sit alongside the operators running the clinics their work measures.
Every function-finance, product, people, growth, technology-exists to serve one goal: better outcomes for the people we care for.
The Role
Product is core to how we scale mental health care and how we get better outcomes for patients.
As our Product Operations Manager, you'll own how the product actually gets delivered, adopted, and improved in the real world. You'll sit at the center of Product, Engineering, and Clinical teams, turning strategy into execution, and execution into outcomes.
This is a high-ownership, high-ambiguity role. You won't just support the system, you'll build it.
What You'll Do
Launch & Clinical Enablement
- Drive product launches from initial rollout planning through go-live.
- Build and maintain scalable launch playbooks that ensure new features and capabilities land seamlessly and effectively across all clinic environments.
- Translate product into practice; design training, materials, and workflows that clinicians actually use, and run live sessions to build team confidence with new tools
- Give clinic ops a rolling quarter of visibility, so training capacity is planned rather than scrambled, and batch related releases into single training moments
- Own release notes end to end: plain language for a busy provider between visits, with a "why this matters" line on every entry
- Own documentation standards - structure, ownership, review cadence
Roadmap & Operating Cadence
- Drive coordination across Product, Engineering, and Clinical teams to bring structure to ambiguity.
- Maintain high-level momentum by tracking dependencies and removing cross-team blockers to push initiatives across the finish line
- Maintain the central roadmap and establish the operational cadence (e.g., quarterly planning) to ensure a unified view of ongoing engineering work, timelines, and goals.
- Design and run the processes that structure stakeholder feedback and reprioritization, empowering Product Leadership to make informed strategic decisions.
- Manage the intake of support tickets and product feedback, translating real-world insights into actionable inputs.
- Run the release tracker to monitor target windows, desired clinical or member outcomes, affected roles, and post-launch adoption signals.
Analytics & Outcome Measurement
- Monitor and report on product KPIs, both at the product level and on a launch-by-launch basis
- Track outcomes, not just adoption; success is measured by improvement on the dimension a launch was meant to move, not just uptake
- Maintain dashboards and a reporting cadence that give Product and leadership visibility into clinical and product performance
Do What It Takes
- We're a startup-no job is too small
- You'll step in wherever needed to move the work forward
- 5+ years in Product Operations, GTM, Business Operations or similar execution-heavy roles
- Tech-focused healthcare startup experience required-ideally with direct exposure to providers/clinicians and the pressures and tools they work with
- Proven track record of launching products and driving adoption
- Track record of measuring adoption and outcomes post-launch, as well as ongoing product KPIs
- Strong analytical instincts; comfortable defining metrics, working with product analytics/data, building and maintaining dashboards and reports that teams trust
- Experience writing for non-technical operational audiences; release notes, documentation, enablement material
- Strong systems thinker; you've built processes that scale across teams
- Exceptional communicator; you can translate between engineers, clinicians, and operators
- Experience managing feedback loops, support workflows, or ticket triage
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity; you create clarity where none exists
- High urgency and ownership; you move fast and finish what you start
- Fluency with AI tools (especially Claude) to increase speed and leverage
- Deep alignment with our mission to improve mental health care
- Able to work in-person from our San Francisco HQ with frequent travel to our clinics in San Mateo and Los Altos
Every product we ship directly impacts patient care.
If we get this right:
- Clinicians work more effectively
- Patients receive better care
- We scale faster without breaking
You're not just improving a product, you're helping build a system that changes lives.
What We're Building
Most healthcare companies ask you to optimize an existing system. We're building one that has never existed.
- A national care model designed for the highest-acuity patients in behavioral health.
- Precision medicine for severe mental illness, using multimodal clinical, behavioral, and social data to personalize treatment.
- A clinical operating system that integrates longitudinal data, real-time patient signals, and purpose-built tools into a single decision layer.
- New science and measurement frameworks to define what real outcomes look like in SMI-stability, functional improvement, and hospitalizations avoided.
- A health-system partnership model proving coordinated SMI care can work at scale.
If you want to maintain the status quo, this isn't the place. If you want to build what doesn't exist yet-and change how an entire population receives care-keep reading.
What We Value
We center care in all we do. Empathy is not a brand value. It's how we make clinical decisions, build products, and treat each other.
We challenge convention. The existing system is the problem. We question it, we test alternatives, and we move with urgency when something works.
We take the work seriously, not ourselves. High standards and humanity are not in tension. We hold a hard bar for quality while leaving room for humor and levity.
Your job isn't done until the job is done. We close gaps, we follow through, and we don't hide behind titles or org charts.
We win together and fail together. We own outcomes as a team. We learn fast. We don't do blame.
We hustle with humility. Speed matters. So does integrity. We assume best intent and stay grounded in the mission.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation includes a base salary of $150,000- $175,000 (based on level & experience) plus equity ownership, giving you a meaningful stake in Amae's growth. Total compensation includes comprehensive medical/dental/vision, unlimited PTO, parental leave, and programs built around employee well-being. We'll share specifics during the interview process.
Amae Health is building the care platform, the precision medicine, and the frontier science that severe mental illness has never had. If you want to be part of creating something this hard and this important, something that has never been done, we'd like to talk.
What We Value
