They facilitate clear communication, align technical objectives with business goals, and ensure that timelines and quality standards are met. Regularly, they participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and cross-team standups, helping to resolve technical blockers and prioritize tasks. This collaborative approach ensures that the final product meets both user needs and technical feasibility while fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product engineering manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Engineering Manager, you need a strong background in engineering principles, product development lifecycle, and leadership, often supported by a degree in engineering or computer science and relevant management experience. Job description

Engineering Manager

Wabash Castings, LLC, A Division of Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry

Wabash, IN | On-site

Lead the Engineering Behind What Comes Next.

What if your next engineering role wasn't just about designing products, but about shaping how an entire operation solves problems, develops people, and builds what comes next?

Wabash Castings is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team and help drive the next chapter of a company with deep roots in advanced aluminum casting.

This isn't a role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk and manage from a distance. We're looking for an engineer who wants to be in the middle of it by working with people, solving manufacturing challenges, improving processes, developing new products, and turning ideas into something that actually gets built.

Why Wabash?

For more than four decades, Wabash Castings has built its reputation around solving complex casting challenges. Today, our team produces sophisticated aluminum castings for major manufacturers across automotive, heavy truck, construction/off-highway and recreation markets.

Our engineering capabilities span casting design, tooling, core making, heat treatment, machining and quality assurance, giving our engineers the opportunity to see projects from concept through production.

And we're part of Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry, a company with a 115+ year history of manufacturing excellence and a growing family of Midwest manufacturing operations.

The Opportunity

  • Lead and develop the Engineering Department
  • Establish department goals and allocate resources
  • Lead new product development and production projects
  • Develop manufacturing processes and tooling
  • Own and support gating and rigging design
  • Utilize simulation and engineering software to solve casting and manufacturing challenges
  • Lead and support continuous improvement and capital projects
  • Oversee program management and product validation
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality and other functions to solve problems
  • Serve as a technical liaison with customers during new product development
  • Own engineering change control
  • Train and mentor Engineering and Manufacturing team members
  • Have the authority to stop production or shipment when necessary to address a quality concern
  • Help Wabash continually improve its technology, processes and engineering capabilities

We're Looking for Someone Who...

Thinks like an engineer. You enjoy digging into difficult problems, understanding the data and finding the root cause.

Leads like a coach. You know that a great engineering department isn't built around one brilliant engineer. You develop people, set clear expectations, share knowledge and build a team capable of solving problems together.

Understands manufacturing. You appreciate that a great design means very little if it can't be produced safely, efficiently, consistently and profitably.

Isn't afraid to get into the plant. You enjoy working alongside Manufacturing, Quality and Operations and seeing your ideas become reality.

Has the confidence to make the hard call. Quality matters. When something isn't right, you're willing to speak up, investigate the problem and make the decision necessary to protect the customer and the business.

Wants to leave something better than they found it.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5–10 years of engineering experience, preferably in an automotive or manufacturing environment
  • Experience leading people, projects and/or engineering functions
  • Working knowledge of engineering software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations and customers
  • Experience with tools such as Unigraphics NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Minitab and Microsoft Office is preferred

If you're an experienced manufacturing engineer who has been waiting for the opportunity to step into leadership, an Engineering Manager who still loves solving problems on the plant floor, a technical leader who knows how to develop people, or even if you're a proven engineering leader looking for an opportunity where your decisions actually matter...We'd like to meet you.

Help engineer what comes next, apply today!
