Job Description:

The Senior Manager, Life & Health Product Development & Strategic Initiatives role at TD Insurance will be responsible for evaluating, developing, and advancing new Life & Health product opportunities and strategic initiatives.

This includes evaluating but not limited to white spaces for Life & Health, identifying attractive market segments and assessment of product-to-market fit, development of business cases grounded in actuarial fundamentals and implementation of market leading Underwriting experiences for TDI customers.

The Senior Manager will play a critical leadership role in shaping the evolution of TDI's Life & Health product strategy and underwriting capabilities. The successful candidate will connect Product, Underwriting, Data & Analytics, Distribution and Journey teams to support with implementation of a forward-looking, AI-enabled underwriting vision for TDI, while ensuring new product opportunities are commercially viable, financially sound, operationally feasible, and aligned to the organization's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the evaluation and development of new Life & Health product opportunities, including identifying white space, target market segments, customer needs, and product-to-market fit in support of TDI's growth agenda.
  • Develop robust business cases for new product initiatives, grounded in actuarial fundamentals (IFRS17, LICAT), meet profitability objectives, and manage risk and operational considerations.
  • Collaborate with key business partners to shape and advance a forward-looking Life & Health underwriting strategy, modernizing processes to reduce customer and colleague friction and support an AI-enabled vision that improves business outcomes.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to assess emerging opportunities, product gaps, customer needs, innovation potential, and financial and operational feasibility.
  • Partner with Product, Pricing, Underwriting, Data & Analytics, Journey, Risk, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and Distribution teams to shape product concepts, support go-to-market planning, and align initiatives to TD's operating model and governance processes.
  • Translate actuarial, product, underwriting, and market insights into clear recommendations for senior leadership decision-making and executive governance.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to team members and cross-functional partners involved in product development and strategic initiative execution.

Job Requirements

  • Experienced Life Actuary (7+ years) with deep knowledge of Life & Health insurance products, including but not limited to individual Life & Critical Illness, Annuities and Benefits.
  • Domain expertise in multiple of the following areas: product development and management, underwriting, pricing, distribution, and financial management (IFRS17, LICAT).
  • Proven ability to develop compelling business cases, assess product-to-market fit, evaluate financial viability, and translate strategic concepts into executable plans.
  • Strong product management experience from an actuarial lens, with the ability to connect customer, market, distribution, pricing, underwriting, and risk considerations.
  • Strong strategic thinking, executive communication, financial analysis, presentation, and storyboarding skills.
  • University degree required; Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent actuarial qualification required.
