Job description

Position Summary

The Business Development Executive (BDE) is a strategic sales role responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities that drive profitable revenue growth for Aptyx. This position is primarily focused on new customer acquisition within the medical device OEM and contract manufacturing market, with an emphasis on building a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities and converting them into long-term partnerships.

The ideal candidate is an experienced new business sales leader with a proven track record of selling complex medical device manufacturing solutions, including injection molding, assembly, and product development services, into OEM organizations. This individual will lead the full sales cycle from prospecting and opportunity development through contract negotiation and commercial launch.

This role requires strong commercial acumen, technical credibility, strategic prospecting capability, and the ability to engage executive stakeholders across engineering, procurement, operations, and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development / Hunter Focus

  • Proactively identify, target, and secure new OEM customers and manufacturing programs within the medical device and life sciences markets
  • Develop and execute annual, quarterly, and monthly sales strategies focused on profitable new business growth
  • Build, manage, and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified new opportunities aligned with revenue targets
  • Lead strategic prospecting efforts, including cold outreach, networking, industry events, referrals, and market intelligence research
  • Identify and qualify new leads through discovery, needs analysis, and solution alignment
  • Develop targeted account penetration strategies for high-value OEM prospects
  • Drive demand generation activities in partnership with marketing and cross-functional commercial teams

Sales Strategy & Commercial Execution

  • Own the complete sales cycle from initial engagement through production transfer
  • Lead customer discussions around manufacturing capabilities, technical solutions, pricing strategy, and commercial terms
  • Develop sales tactics, value propositions, competitive positioning, and executive-level presentations
  • Maintain accurate CRM pipeline reporting, forecasting, and opportunity stage management
  • Prepare pricing models, cost estimates, RFQ responses, quotations, and commercial proposals
  • Negotiate contracts, master service agreements, quality agreements, and long-term supply agreements
  • Ensure pricing discipline and profitability targets are achieved

Technical & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Engineering, R&D, Product Development, Operations, and Quality to define customer requirements and technical solutions
  • Translate customer needs into manufacturing and development requirements
  • Support NPI and program launch activities as the commercial lead for customer relationships
  • Collaborate on prototype development, feasibility reviews, and commercialization planning
  • Monitor scope changes, commercial risks, and customer expectations throughout the project lifecycle

Market Intelligence & Competitive Positioning

  • Maintain strong awareness of market trends, customer activity, competitor movements, and emerging technologies
  • Identify whitespace opportunities and strategic growth markets within MedTech
  • Use market insights to strengthen Aptyx's commercial positioning and win strategy

Relationship Management

  • Establish and grow relationships with executive decision-makers, procurement leaders, engineering teams, and operational stakeholders
  • Serve as a trusted commercial advisor and brand ambassador for Aptyx
  • Support strategic growth and expansion opportunities within newly won accounts

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of successful hunter sales experience selling contract manufacturing, CDMO, or OEM services
  • Proven track record of winning new logos and large-scale OEM programs
  • Strong experience within medical device manufacturing, MedTech, or regulated healthcare industries
  • Deep knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA regulatory requirements, and medical device commercialization processes
  • Strong understanding of injection molding, device assembly, and manufacturing technologies for Class II and III medical devices
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, long-cycle consultative sales processes
  • Experience working with cross-functional technical teams including engineering and operations
