Position Overview The Ultra Capacitor Modules (UCMs) are critical components of Ford's next-generation low-voltage power networks, enabling rapid energy storage, peak power shaving, start-stop support, and power network stabilization.

As the UCM Core SW Engineer, you will lead the end-to-end elicitation, definition, and management of system and software requirements for the UCM. You will serve as the technical bridge between vehicle-level feature owners, functional safety teams, hardware designers, and Tier 1 suppliers to ensure the module meets Ford's rigorous performance, safety, and quality standards. What you will be able to do This position provides a unique and challenging engineering experience combining power electronics, energy storage technology, functional safety, and supplier program management.

You will: Lead Requirements Elicitation & Management: Own the development of detailed software-level interface and functional specifications for the UCM in JAMA, ensuring full traceability from vehicle-level requirements down to module interfaces. Support Key UCM Functions: Establish requirements for core module features, including cell balancing, State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), thermal management, and power electronics control algorithms. Manage Supplier Integration: Work closely with Full-Service Suppliers (FSS) to explain requirements, review technical proposals, manage the Statement of Work (SOW)/RFQ packages, and control requirement change-management.

Drive Functional Safety & Cyber Security: Collaborate with safety specialists to implement ISO 26262 requirements, including Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Functional Safety Requirements (FSR), and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR). Manage Network & Diagnostic Interfaces: Manage communication (CAN, LIN), and diagnostic (UDS) interfaces for the UCM. Coordinate Cross-Functional Reviews: Conduct software design and requirement reviews with interfacing Ford activities, Module Hardware, Power Net Controls, and supplier engineering.

Support Validation & Testing: Align subsystem-level validation plans and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, with the defined requirements to ensure complete coverage. Agile Collaboration: Facilitate effective collaboration between JIRA Saga owners, product owners, and supplier software teams to ensure efficient and timely software delivery across programs. The minimum requirements we seek Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry Strong knowledge of Embedded software, Electronics, Systems Engineering and functional specifications Our preferred requirements M.S

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $85,400-$143,200., This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $99,600-$156,600., This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $115,000-$162,900.
