Job Description

Overview:

The Product Development team is dynamic - leading the future of our business through design with supported data and insights all while supporting day-to-day operations. Within the team, the Product Development Designer is responsible for supporting new model development and existing model improvements, using predominantly Revit and some AutoCAD software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive concept development and project manage new models from initial concepting through to sales release, working with key stakeholders across the operations team.

  • Complete new master working files using Revit 3D software and AutoCAD, adhering to internal Design Guidelines and Bylaws for both Calgary and Edmonton regions.

  • Create blacklines set of drawings, floor plans, sections, pre-planned options.

  • Coordinate and review with Architectural Controls to ensure drawings meet requirements.

  • Coordinate with trade partners and internal teams in regard to new model standards and efficiencies.

  • Show Homes and Prototypes: Review & discuss onsite construction issues as they arise (framing, engineering, floor and roof layouts, finishing, electrical) and drive changes when required.

  • Manage contractor coordination by establishing drawing guidelines, providing architectural control direction, reviewing concepts, and issuing drawing markups.

  • Complete master working drawings for new elevations and plan options using Revit software for existing model database.

  • Attend scheduled meetings including but not limited to operations meetings, Sales/Construction meetings, product development meetings and framing walkthroughs.

  • Continuous exploration of methods to improve business practise and process, including recommending improvements based on evaluation of current business model where opportunities for improvement exist.

  • Encourage collaborative working environment for high team member engagement and positive working environment.

  • Participate in and provide training as needed to others (new team members, Sales, Construction, and Estimating) with respect to Product Development department procedures and areas of responsibility.

  • Support the ongoing maintenance of our design guidelines, drawing standards, procedures documentation, and reference library.

  • Liaise with municipal officials in regards to code, bylaw or application concerns/questions.

  • Maintain positive relationships with industry officials, trades partners and suppliers.

  • Keep current on Alberta code, bylaw and industry changes. This includes, but is not limited to, attending industry seminars, information sessions, PHBI courses, product demonstrations, engineering, etc.

What You'll Bring:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Architectural Technologies, or other related field.

  • 5+ years of industry experience.

  • Strong knowledge of industry, building code, and government requirements.

  • Strong proficiency using MS Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT.

  • Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Effective communication skills; ability to communicate with customers, team members and external partners.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple competing priorities.

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Portfolio of relevant product development work required.
