We invest funds for thepension plans of thefederalpublicservice, the Canadian Forces, theRoyal Canadian Mounted Police andthe ReserveForce. Headquartered in Ottawa, PSP Investments has its principal business office in Montreal and offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.

Capturing and leading complex global investments requires us to work as one to seize valuable opportunities, in close collaboration with some of the world's top companies. At PSP Investments, you'll join a team of motivated and engaged professionals, dedicated to propelling our organization further than ever before.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The External Manager Selection and Monitoring ("EMSM") team oversees portfolios across three asset classes - Public Equity, Emerging Market Debt and Alpha Alternatives (liquid hedge funds) - managing more than C$46 billion across 35+ external manager relationships. Beyond selecting best-in-class managers to complement internal strategies, the team plays a transversal role within Global Alpha, continuously helping internal teams sharpen how they invest. We are now working toward embedding AI and automation directly into that mandate to modernize how we research, select, diligence and monitor external managers.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

As an Intern building AI and Investment solutions for the EMSM team, you will apply emerging AI capabilities to make our investment process faster, deeper and more insightful. Working alongside investment professionals who select and oversee external managers, you will sit at the intersection of investing and technology - turning manual research, due diligence and monitoring tasks into intelligent and repeatable systems. This is a hands-on opportunity to own real problems end to end and see your tools shape live investment decisions.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify pain points and opportunities in the EMSM team's investment process, prototype solutions, and iterate toward production-ready tools

  • Develop AI-enabled tools and workflows that improve investment research, manager screening, due diligence and portfolio monitoring

  • Automate recurring quantitative and qualitative analyses including performance and portfolio data updates, peer comparisons, exposure and risk monitoring

  • Read industry and technical research to bring fresh ideas on how emerging AI capabilities can be applied to manager selection and oversight

  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs from an investment perspective, ensuring that conclusions are accurate, financially meaningful and appropriately supported by evidence

  • Partner with professionals across the firm - and with the Data Science & AI team - to gather requirements, validate outputs and drive adoption of your solutions

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Strong interest in investing, financial markets and institutional portfolio management, combined with a builder's mindset - you want to solve real investment problems with AI

  • A rigorous, research-oriented mindset and the drive to look beyond surface facts and deliver value-added, fact-based analysis

  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to build relationships and a network across the organization to gather information, uncover opportunities and move projects forward

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced institutional investment environment with a high level of autonomy and ownership

  • Enrolled in a Master's program in Financial Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science or a related quantitative discipline

  • Hands-on experience with AI/automation - including but not limited to ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot

  • An understanding of investments and financial instruments, enough to grasp common investment concepts and terminology - asset classes, risk and return, performance measurement and portfolio construction

  • Experience with financial, capital market and portfolio datasets is an asset

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (particularly Excel)

  • Knowledge of Bloomberg is an asset

  • Programming skills in Python, SQL and data-visualization tools such as Power BI is an asset

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Must return to studies after the internship, or the internship must be part of your curriculum

  • Candidates must have the right to work in Canada* for the period specified. No support to obtain the right to work will be provided.

    • *Options include Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid open work permit

  • Good communications skills in English and French (or willingness to learn) (regular interactions in English with investment partners based outside of Quebec Example: peers, bankers, brokerage firms, etc. and PSP employees in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)

At PSP Investments, we aim to provide a workplace where everyone feels valued, safe, respected and empowered to grow. As part of this leadership commitment, we strongly encourage applications from all qualified applicants and strive to offer an inclusive and accessible candidate experience.
