As a Product Development Manager, manages all aspects of day-to-day product development in the Research & Development organization.

Responsibilities include personnel management and activities to support all aspects of product formulation/development and commercialization activities, including customer quotations, technical sales/customer support, and product commercialization activities. Works collaboratively with Sales, Customer service, Operations, Technical Operations, Procurement, and Quality to achieve all business objectives.

  • Oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations of product development R&D organization, including: customer product quotations, benchtop/small scale pilot samples, creation of RM & FP specifications and other documentation, customer label review, and other activities.
  • Provides technical support to Customer Service, Sales, Quality, Procurement, and other departments
  • Sets and communicates departmental priorities, coaches and inspires direct reports, and addresses performance issues
  • Maintains a high level of technical knowledge, trains and develops subordinates to acquire additional skills and responsibilities thru empowerment, delegation and follow through.
  • Creates effective backup plans and cross-trains department personnel.
  • Manages communications between Product Development R&D and Sales/Customer service organization to ensure effective and efficient product commercialization.
  • Assists in the development and maintains departmental KPIs
  • Continuously explores, identifies, and develop innovative proprietary solutions.
  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and operates in a safe manner.
  • Perform other related job duties related to the job, as assigned by management.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical/Food Science, Industrial Engineering or related field from an accredited college/university; plus
  • Five (5) or more years of work experience in nutraceutical industry; or
  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that will provide the level of knowledge, skills, and ability required for the job.
  • Project management experience is a strong plus.
  • Proficient in creating formulation/process models, and solving complex problems.
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills and ability priorities and delegate to successfully manage numerous priorities.
  • Proficient knowledge of Company safety requirements, including GMP, SOPs, and OSHA regulations, applicable to the job.
  • Knowledge and understanding of nutritional ingredients, product formulations, and their claims
  • Competent in interpreting and understanding scientific and technical literature and reporting findings in application-oriented reports and presentations.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing, regulatory, supply chain and business implications of formulation decisions.
