Job description

The Product Development Analyst works full-time in the VEV Metrology Lab. They are responsible for collecting highly accurate 3D coordinate point data using multiple devices (Perceptron, ATOS, Romer, Photogrammetry, and Robotics). This is performed with a high-level working knowledge of a variety of geometric measurement software and understanding of assembly and manufacturing processes. They are responsible to assure integrity of all collected and reported data. The analyst role also includes use of the C3PNG toolset for acquiring reference models and specifications for various measurement projects. They will be expected to work with regional and global employees (Ford personnel as well as non-Ford personnel) in communicating with customers, engineering, and management.

This position is located in Dearborn, MI.

  • Program and operate the CMM and Laser Scanning equipment, using multiple software packages for data acquisition, processing, and transfer.

  • Operate tools and machinery to fabricate simple and complex fixtures for part, component, and assembly scanning and measuring.

  • Set up vehicles or components and perform CMM and/or Laser Scanning operations.

  • Process ELMS requests and determine the best use of technology and methods of data analysis by evaluating requests, engineering prints, tolerance and GD&T specifications, CAD models, and sketches.

  • Process collected data into a usable format and transfer it to Corporate CAD databases using CATIA and TeamCenter Engineering.

  • Train others in the usage of metrology equipment and data analysis software.

  • Schedule assignments and tasks, working with management to assign priorities while providing daily status reports of workload.

  • Verify that delivered reports and scan or surface models meet customer requirements by utilizing all available metrology tools and techniques.

  • Practice and promote safe working habits and maintain a clean working environment.

  • Possess and promote a positive attitude and be willing to perform added duties as assigned.

  • Perform liaison duties by communicating work plans and project results to customers and management via email, text messages, conference calls, and facetoface conversations.

  • Be able and willing to work offshifts and weekends as necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred

  • Experienced with modeling in CATIA and part authoring in TCe

  • Advanced skills in PolyWorks, GeoMagic, and pointcloud to NURBS surface processing

  • Working knowledge of optical metrology datacollecting devices including but not limited to: CMM, laser trackers, fringeprojection scanners, laser scanners, etc.

  • Knowledge of various seat testing procedures (J826, R202a, IIHS)

  • Solid organizational skills including proven ability to multitask and maintain project deadlines

  • Ability to work independently and communicate results with solid verbal and written skills

  • Proficient in utilizing MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)

  • Able and willing to learn new software applications and participate in global compatibility studies

  • Advanced skill and demonstrated use of static and dynamic photogrammetry systems

  • Programming with Visual Basic and ability to apply programming skills for macro development in available software (CATIA, PolyWorks, Excel), preferred
