Producer Manager information

What is a producer manager?

A Producer Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of producers within an organization, often in industries like media, entertainment, insurance, or agriculture. Their duties include managing production schedules, budgets, and resources, as well as ensuring that projects meet quality standards and deadlines. Producer Managers also serve as a liaison between producers and other departments, helping to resolve issues and facilitate communication. They play a crucial role in optimizing workflow and achieving project goals.

How does a producer manager typically collaborate with creative and technical teams during a project's lifecycle?

A Producer Manager acts as a central coordinator, frequently bridging communication between creative and technical teams throughout each project phase. They facilitate meetings, set clear expectations, and ensure all departments are aligned on goals, timelines, and deliverables. This role often requires balancing creative vision with practical constraints, addressing challenges such as resource allocation or shifting priorities. By maintaining strong relationships and transparent communication, Producer Managers help keep projects on track and foster a collaborative, productive work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a producer manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Producer Manager, you need strong project management abilities, leadership skills, and experience in production workflows, often supported by a degree in business, media, or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (like Asana or Trello), budgeting tools, and production scheduling systems is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help a Producer Manager coordinate teams and drive projects to completion. These skills ensure that productions run smoothly, stay within budget, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.

What is the difference between Producer Manager vs Production Coordinator?

Job description

Overview

Fox TV Stations FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 fullโ€‘power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Networkโ€™s national content.

Job Description

The news team at FOX 26 and FOX Local Houston is reโ€‘imagining how local news is gathered and delivered. We no longer wait for appointed times to deliver content. We are a 24/7 streamingโ€‘first news organization. As we continue to evolve, weโ€™re hiring a Morning News Producer who thinks beyond the broadcast, builds for every platform, and understands that great journalism today must stop the scroll as much as it stops the remote. Our morning news block is consistently #1 in Houston and we intend to keep it that way on linear, streaming, and social. This is one of the most competitive news markets in the country. We need someone hungry enough to stay ahead of it everywhere our audience lives.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Youโ€™ll plan, produce, and deliver compelling content that works across broadcast, streaming platforms, and social media simultaneously. That means developing segments with a YouTube Shorts and a live control room mindset โ€” sometimes in the same hour. Youโ€™ll be the creative engine behind our morning block, moving seamlessly from wallโ€‘toโ€‘wall breaking news and severe weather coverage to engaging studio segments, live guests, and shareable social moments. Youโ€™ll coโ€‘own our digital footprint alongside our digital team, ensuring every segment, tease, and interview is cut, captioned, and optimized for the platform it lives on โ€” whether thatโ€™s a 90โ€‘second streaming segment, an Instagram Reel, or a full broadcast block. Youโ€™ll think about the TikTok clip before the show airs, not after. Youโ€™ll also bring genuine creative vision to what morning news can look like in 2026. That means pitching segments that are visually distinct, experimenting with new formats, and pushing the team to produce content that earns loyal followership โ€” not just viewership. Youโ€™ll also have opportunities to produce news and sports specials, field produce major events and take on highโ€‘profile special projects.

What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • A creative thinker who produces for audiences, not just airtime
  • Deep fluency on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X โ€” and how content performs differently on each
  • Experience producing for or alongside a streaming platform
  • Mastery of the control room, with the flexibility to pivot live, fast, and confidently
  • Strong, concise writing for multiple formats: broadcast, digital, and social copy
  • Editing skills to support live, studio, and socialโ€‘first content
  • A collaborative spirit โ€” youโ€™ll work closely with anchors, the assignment desk, digital producers, and managers to keep FOX26 ahead of the story and ahead of the competition
Requirements

Minimum 2 years of producing experience in a medium or large market preferred. Bachelorโ€™s degree required; journalism, communications, or a related field preferred. You must thrive under pressure, meet hard deadlines, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Familiarity with newsroom systems, graphics programs, and video editing software required. Houston is a yearโ€‘round severe weather and breaking news market. All newsroom staff must be available to work onโ€‘site or in the field during highโ€‘impact events and local emergencies.

Equal Opportunity Employer

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories consistent with applicable law.

Benefits

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $65,000.00โ€“71,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for unionโ€‘represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
