Procurement Merchandiser information

What is a procurement merchandiser?

Procurement Merchandisers are professionals responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory for retail or wholesale businesses. They analyze market trends, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure that the right products are available at the right time and price. Their role bridges the gap between suppliers and sales teams to optimize stock levels, minimize costs, and maximize profitability. Additionally, they monitor product performance and collaborate with other departments to meet customer demand and business goals.

How does a procurement merchandiser typically collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure product availability?

A Procurement Merchandiser works closely with suppliers to negotiate prices, manage orders, and monitor delivery schedules to ensure timely product availability. Internally, they coordinate with inventory managers, sales teams, and logistics staff to align procurement activities with current demand and promotional plans. Effective communication and relationship-building are essential, as the role often requires balancing supplier capabilities with company objectives. This collaboration helps prevent stockouts, optimize inventory levels, and maintain strong supplier partnerships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a procurement merchandiser, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Procurement Merchandiser, you need a solid understanding of supply chain management, product sourcing, negotiation, and inventory control, often supported by a degree in business, supply chain, or a related field. Familiarity with procurement software, ERP systems like SAP, and data analysis tools is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills help you excel in vendor management and cross-functional collaboration. These skills are crucial for ensuring optimal product availability, cost efficiency, and responsive adaptation to market trends.

The Senior Director will lead the store design and development teams and provide strategic oversight of store layouts, space productivity, fixtures, signage, branded environments, project quality, schedules, and budgets. The role will partner closely with Merchandising, Operations, and other business leaders to ensure the store environment enhances the customer experience, supports the Micro Center brand, and drives strong business performance.
This position reports directly to the CFO/COO.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Provide strategic leadership for Store Design & Development, establishing the vision, standards, priorities, and long-range direction for new stores, remodels, space optimization, and fixture planning.
  • Direct the planning, design, and construction of new stores and remodels, ensuring projects are delivered in alignment with approved scope, budget, schedule, quality standards, and design intent.
  • Oversee relationships with architects, engineers, general contractors, consultants, fixture manufacturers, and other external partners to ensure effective project execution and timely resolution of significant issues.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Store Design, Construction Management, Fixture Procurement, and Space Planning teams by establishing goals, developing talent, allocating resources, and driving accountability for results.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment with Merchandising, Visual Merchandising, Store Operations, Marketing, Finance, and IT to ensure store environments support merchandising strategies, operational needs, and the customer experience.
  • Provide strategic oversight of space planning and allocation, including branded vendor environments and store-in-store concepts, using performance data and customer insights to maximize productivity across the store footprint.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including capital planning, budgeting, forecasting, value engineering, vendor RFPs, and actions necessary to achieve project and financial objectives.
  • Champion continuous improvement and innovation across store design and development, identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, accelerate project delivery, enhance store functionality, and support future store concepts.
  • Travel as needed to support new store openings, remodels, project reviews, vendor relationships, and other business priorities.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in retail store design, construction, space planning, development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, big-box retail construction and remodel projects.
  • Proven experience building, leading, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to establish priorities, set clear goals, and drive accountability across multiple functions and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen with experience managing project budgets, capital expenditures, vendor relationships, and negotiations.
  • Proven ability to partner with and influence senior internal stakeholders, external partners, consultants, and vendors.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and other relevant design and project-management tools.
  • Experience supporting customer-focused retail environments through store design, space planning, merchandising, and visual presentation.
