Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Machine Operator monitors and operates advanced CNC machinery used in structural steel fabrication processes. They are responsible for production output of steel beams, columns, and related components by maintaining optimal machine settings, feed rates, and proper material handling. Operators need a comprehensive understanding of structural steel properties, beam processing equipment, and CNC programming systems. They ensure all processed material meets precise engineering specifications including size, shape and grade of material and quality standards required for structural applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program and operate advanced CNC beam drilling lines, coping machines, and plasma cutting systems
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings and translate specifications into precise machine parameters
  • Perform first-article inspections using advanced measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy
  • Make independent decisions regarding machine adjustments to maintain critical tolerances
  • Optimize production sequencing for maximum throughput of structural components
  • Lead shift startup and shutdown procedures for complex machinery systems
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for front-end equipment
  • Evaluate and approve quality of finished structural components
  • Mentor junior operators on proper techniques and troubleshooting methods
  • Coordinate with maintenance team on preventive and corrective maintenance schedules
  • Maintain all required production, maintenance and quality logs
  • Perform basic maintenance such as oil and grease machinery
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform each essential duty daily.

  • High School diploma or GED preferred technical or vocational training preferred
  • Minimum 1 years of experience operating CNC machinery in structural steel fabrication
  • Advanced knowledge of beam line equipment, drill lines, and plasma cutting systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CNC machine programming and parameter adjustments
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Strong understanding of structural steel properties, tolerances, and quality standards
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and implement corrective actions
  • Experience with quality control procedures and measuring equipment calibration
  • Certification in crane operation and rigging preferred
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with safety, quality, and production teams
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to train and supervise junior operators
  • Valid V50 forklift certification
  • Excellent safety awareness
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in extreme temperature environments

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Industrial warehouse and manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, and overhead cranes.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures and use of PPE is mandatory at all times.
  • Frequent interaction with production staff, supervisors, safety personnel, and quality control teams.
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, depending on seasonal conditions.
