UPMC Presbyterian is Now Hiring Central Sterile Processing Associates - All Shifts Available!

Are you detail-oriented, dependable, and ready to play a vital role in patient care-even if you're not in the operating room? UPMC Presbyterian is seeking Central Sterile Processing Associates to support both our Presbyterian and Montefiore campuses. You'll be the key to delivering safe, high-quality care by ensuring our surgical instruments and equipment are spotless, sterile, and ready to go.

Certified & Experienced (1+ year) Central Sterile Processing Technician hires are eligible for up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

What You'll Do:

  • Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment
  • Assemble surgical trays with precision and attention to detail
  • Operate and monitor high-tech sterilization equipment
  • Maintain inventory and prepare case carts for upcoming surgeries
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure patient safety and surgical success

What It Takes:

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy trays
  • Strong focus, patience, and consistency for repetitive, detail-driven tasks
  • Flexibility to work rotating on-call, weekend, and holiday shifts
  • One of the following required:
    • High school diploma/GED or equivalent with no experience
    • Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program
    • 1 year of experience within UPMC
  • All staff must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date 12/27/2020, at a healthcare facility, are
    grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would
    require certification.
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or
    International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification required for our PA and NY
    facilities.
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician OR
    International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management
  • New employees in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded) will have 18 months from date of hire to obtain required
    certification.
