Description:

The Compost Processing Associate helps ensure excess food products are handled responsibly by sorting them into the appropriate disposal stream, including compost, farm feed, grinding preparation, or waste. This position plays an important role in keeping our warehouse running efficiently by reducing waste and maximizing the use of donated products whenever possible. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, is comfortable working in a warehouse environment, and can adapt to changing priorities throughout the day.


Responsibilities

  • Sort excess food products and determine the best method of disposal, including compost, farm feed, grinding preparation, or waste.
  • Monitor the amount of compost on hand and make decisions based on current inventory and product availability.
  • Coordinate and work alongside volunteer teams assigned to the compost area.
  • Safely operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move products and materials throughout the warehouse.
  • Keep the compost processing area clean, organized, and operating efficiently.
  • Follow all safety procedures and equipment guidelines.
  • Help maintain an organized workflow while adapting to changing product volumes and daily priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Previous warehouse, agriculture, recycling, or composting experience is a plus but not required.
  • Forklift experience is preferred or a willingness to become certified.
  • Ability to communicate well and provide direction to volunteers.
  • Ability to stand and walk for most of the workday.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in both hot and cold conditions, including indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Comfortable working around spoiled or decomposing food products.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
