Job description

Job Title: Processing Lead
Department: Processing - Breaker
Location: Thompson, IA
Reports To: Processing Manager
Job Type: Full Time
Job Summary
The Processing Lead is responsible for overseeing processing operations, Breaking Room Operations, Tanker Bay operations, and/or assisting with Transfer Room activities. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of all plant positions to effectively train, coach, and direct staff. The Lead plays a crucial role in maintaining processing operations, managing product flow to meet schedules, and ensuring overall plant efficiency and quality standards.
Essential Job Functions
  • Oversee and manage processing operations
  • Perform, monitor, and document hourly quality checks
  • Coordinate morning equipment setup and end-of-run washdown procedures
  • Manage product flow to meet schedules and customer specifications
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems
  • Ensure equipment cleanliness and readiness for quality inspections
  • Fill in for all processing positions where needed
  • Train, coach, and direct employees across various plant positions
  • Collaborate with other departments to foster a unified team environment
  • Communicate effectively with USDA on-site inspectors, management, and quality control teams
  • Enforce and follow safety rules and policies
  • Assist with Transfer Room activities as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of leadership experience
  • 2+ years of food processing or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to drive a shag truck and back in trailers
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., twist, bend, and work in various climate conditions
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Experience with food safety and quality control procedures
  • Knowledge of USDA regulations in food processing
Work Environment
This position operates in a food processing plant environment, involving exposure to various temperatures, including extreme heat and cold. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods, as well as the ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects. The Processing Lead must be comfortable working with processing equipment and adhering to strict food safety protocols. The job may involve shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet production demands.
