Job Summary and Qualifications

The Simulation Specialist is an essential role in facilitating medical simulation. This position is responsible for integrating, maintaining and operating the computer and audio-video (AV) technology including manikin and surrounding simulation lab equipment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and ensures simulation and education-based technologies are maintained to ensure minimal downtime
  • Ability to assess equipment failures and remedy such failures in a timely fashion
  • Contributes to the development of curriculum and educational materials for different levels and types of training related to simulation
  • Interface with the equipment manufacturers regarding trouble-shooting equipment and systems problems and implementing hardware and software updates in a timely basis
  • Fosters a Service Excellence culture
  •  Evaluates simulation and education-based technology to identify opportunities for improvement and communicates the opportunities to immediate supervisor
  • Operate or assist with the operation of the simulators and task trainers for all training sessions as needed or requested by their supervisor or clinical educators that are leading the simulation training session
  • Responsible for the use of the Simulation Lab and equipment; provides consultation and orientation to instructors regarding simulation laboratory procedures, location and use of materials, and the operation of equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably within parameters designated by immediate supervisor
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of the medical simulators
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all equipment and timely ordering and availability of supplies.
  • Identifies performance opportunities or training needs as it relates to simulation and provides coaching, development and training to improve performance in the use of clinical simulation
  • Assist clinical educators with orientation to principles of simulation training technology and configurations.
  • Contributes to strategic planning and business development within area(s) of responsibility.
  • Represents the organization positively within the community; participates in company supported community/patient events and in-services
  •  Develops and maintains positive external relationships as it relates to medical simulation.
  • Identifies opportunities to support service line growth through the use of medical simulation.
  • Stays abreast of emerging technologies, and advancements of medical simulation.
  • Utilizes expertise to meet the present and future needs of simulation and technology-based education
  • Conducts tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals
  • Operates within the annual budget.
  • Manages department performance in accordance with established budget. Including the utilization of staffing, supplies, equipment.
  • Participates in the annual budget process providing input into department simulation equipment needs.
  • Manages operating expenses including the utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Identifies cost reduction opportunities and implements actions to achieve savings.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or healthcare technology preferred
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification preferred
  • Familiarity with operation of personal computers is preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and audio-visual equipment is preferred
  • Certification Healthcare Operations Simulation Preferred
