Summary:

The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing processes related to tire production. This position focuses on process optimization, quality improvement, cost reduction, and operational efficiency for products released to mass production by the R&D/PI Group. The Process Engineer works closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and other plant departments to identify process improvements, resolve production issues, and implement sustainable solutions that enhance productivity, reduce waste, and maintain product quality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, track, and analyze process performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement in productivity, quality, cycle time, and scrap reduction.
  • Develop and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) documentation.
  • Create, revise, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for process, production, and quality-related issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to address identified concerns.
  • Train and support production associates on process improvements, procedures, and best practices as needed.
  • Review, evaluate, and disposition non-conforming materials and components.
  • Spend significant time on the production floor working directly with operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to identify and resolve process issues.
  • Analyze production data and lead projects focused on process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement best practices, standardized work methods, and innovative solutions to improve production performance and product quality.
  • Support the design, installation, modification, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation related to process performance and improvement activities.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement concepts through coursework, internships, or project experience.
  • Exposure to process documentation, root cause analysis, or problem-solving methodologies is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with a willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to support process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Internship, co-op, senior project, or other hands-on engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum of one engineering internship or relevant co-op experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing and walking throughout manufacturing and office areas.
  • Ability to work in both office and production environments.
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, reach, and navigate manufacturing equipment areas.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to use computers, data analysis tools, and standard office equipment for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office and plant-floor learning experiences.
  • Exposure to industrial equipment, heat, and noise (PPE provided).
