Job description

Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Company’s health and safety programs. This role serves as the primary safety authority for field operations and ensures compliance with OSHA/other mandatory federal standards, and client-specific safety requirements.

The Safety Manager will work closely with operations leadership and field crews to identify hazards, implement effective controls, conduct training, investigate incidents, and foster a strong safety culture across all job sites. This role requires frequent interaction with customers, regulators, and insurance partners and must balance operational realities with uncompromising safety standards.

This is a hands-on role requiring regular field presence, direct involvement in high-hazard activities (confined space entry, hazardous materials, etc.), and the ability to make real-time safety decisions. We are looking for someone who a self-starter that isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves, partner with operations, and actively contribute to building and strengthening our safety culture.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain the Company’s safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide support to the project by maintaining a visible presence to the field performing site visits to the entire project throughout the day.
  • Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the HS&E programs in the field.
  • Perform job site audits, inspections, and hazard assessments
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance.
  • Lead and oversee permit required confined space program, HAZWOPER compliance, LOTO, JSAs and Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSP).
  • Regularly audit the SSSP for compliance and update to ensure the alignment with project scope and conditions.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage events; develop corrective actions
  • Oversee case management for company work-related injuries and other incidents at the job site.
  • Verify, coordinate and schedule/conduct all required safety training for all personnel.
  • Ensure new hires are orientated per Path Environmental Technology’s training requirements, and all required documentation is completed accurately and retained at the corporate office.
  • Oversee the maintenance, accuracy, and reporting of all required safety compliance elements, ensuring OSHA logs, safety postings, policies, inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and first aid information are current and accessible.
  • Ensure that the following material is available on site, Path’s HS&E Manual, the applicable provincial legislation and regulations, site safety inspection forms, observation forms, SSSP, fall protection plans etc.
  • Prepare for, and participate in audits such as client, 3rd party and internal audits.
  • Coordinate a regular meeting with project team to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events.
  • Other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygience preferred
  • Ten or more years of safety experience with progressive positions or equivalent operational experience.
  • Minimum 5 year in high hazard or industrial environments (tank cleaning, industrial services, petrochemical, refining)
  • OSHA 30
  • CSP or ASP Cert
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities.
  • Ability to travel frequently to provide adequate operational support at the Company’s job sites

  • Confined Space: Permit Required Confined Space, Confined Space rescue coordination knowledge (even if using 3rd party rescue)
  • Hazardous Materials/Chemicals: HAZWOPER 40, SDS management & chemical hazard assessments
  • Energy & Fire Hazards: LOTO program development and audits/Hot Work permitting and fire watch controls
  • Atmospheric & Process Hazards: gas detection & air monitoring
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to prioritize
