Safety Manager Mission and Purpose of the Job
To ensure that all Service Technology Centre (STC) personnel carry out their roles safely and with minimum adverse impact on the environment. To ensure that these centres meet local and corporate governance according to Atlas Copco and local administration needs
The Safety Manager operates as part of the STC management team.
The Safety manager must interface with all levels within the STC operational environment.
Safety Manager Main Responsibilities
  • Ensures that SHE Management System and strategy are effectively implemented in all sites in the region
  • In support of a compliant SHE structure & organisation, ensures that site based safety professionals are appointed, obtains the qualification and develops the necessary skills required by the relevant legislation and governance codes.
  • Works with local management to manage a long term sustainable approach to the assessment of all risks, the recording of such risks and the swift introduction of measures to minimize such risks, both preventative and protective.
  • Ensures that local management operates a streamlined and effective SHE reporting system which will allow the monitoring of site H&S performance against lagging, but especially leading indicators
  • Ensures that the design and implementation of all SHE programmes are successful in involving all employees; especially in informing, development and training
  • Participates in SHE Performance quarterly/annual reviews, to provide input and advice
  • Undertakes investigations into serious incidents which may have a negative effect on the region & report as appropriate.

Safety Manager Skill / Knowledge / Experience
  • A university degree/HND level qualification (or local equivalent) in an engineering discipline with a work based qualification in Environmental Health & Safety e.g. NEBOSH diploma.
  • Over 10 years experience within a multi-disciplined manufacturing environment. A minimum of 5 years experience in a management position
  • The job holder must be an accomplished safety manager with a track record of improved safety performance
  • Strong communication skills, organisational awareness and impact and influencing skills area prerequisite
  • Self Starter, effective time manager and effective line manager
  • Assertive, diplomatic with a good appreciation of business and commercial issues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, orientation in modern IT structures and processes. SAP, MS Project highly desirable.
  • Proficient in English - written and speaking

Safety Manager Scope of the Job
  • To purpose of the role is to support the local STC management objectives in the areas relating to Safety and the Environment, to ensure that policies and procedures which fulfil company goals for the safety of employees and customers are being complied with. This will be achieved by commitment to a continuous process of quality. improvement and to responding proactively to our customer's needs and expectations
  • The job requires directing and prioritising the work of safety professionals, monitoring or regional SHE performance, managing regular site audits, attending regular SIM meetings, playing a major role in reducing, investigating and eliminating accidents.
  • The jobholder provides the voice of safety in the regions
  • Provide the voice of safety in the region
  • Ensure all brands have equal status & alignment to corporate objects/directive
  • Provide the strategy, management & responsibility of policy deployment pertaining to both VTS and VSS divisions
  • Functional role responsible for multiple (STC) sites for the region includes staff numbers upwards to 200 people, management & compliance of SHE local /corporate legislation, management & ownership of regional continuity planning
