Process Reliability Manager information

What is a Process Reliability Manager?

A Process Reliability Manager is a professional responsible for ensuring that manufacturing or production processes operate efficiently, consistently, and with minimal downtime. They analyze process data, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance equipment reliability and overall process performance. By collaborating with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams, they help reduce failures, optimize productivity, and maintain quality standards. Their work is crucial for minimizing costs and ensuring that production targets are met safely and reliably.

What is the difference between Process Reliability Manager vs Maintenance Engineer?

AspectProcess Reliability ManagerMaintenance Engineer
CertificationsReliability certifications, Six Sigma, PMPMechanical/Electrical certifications, HVAC, PLC certifications
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, industrial facilitiesFactories, equipment maintenance sites
Industry UsageFocus on reliability, uptime, and process optimizationFocus on equipment repair, preventive maintenance

The Process Reliability Manager primarily focuses on improving equipment reliability and process efficiency through data analysis and strategic planning. In contrast, Maintenance Engineers handle the hands-on repair and maintenance of machinery. Both roles are essential in manufacturing, but the Process Reliability Manager emphasizes proactive reliability strategies, while Maintenance Engineers focus on reactive and preventive maintenance tasks.

How does a Process Reliability Manager typically collaborate with maintenance and production teams to achieve operational goals?

A Process Reliability Manager works closely with both maintenance and production teams to identify areas of improvement in equipment reliability and process efficiency. This often involves facilitating cross-functional meetings, analyzing downtime data, and implementing preventive maintenance strategies. Clear communication and teamwork are key, as the role requires aligning the objectives of different departments to minimize unplanned outages and optimize production output. By fostering a proactive culture and sharing best practices, the Process Reliability Manager helps ensure the plant operates smoothly and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Reliability Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Reliability Manager, you need a strong background in engineering, process optimization, and reliability analysis, often supported by a degree in engineering and experience in manufacturing or industrial settings. Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), root cause analysis tools, and data analysis software such as SAP or Maximo is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills help drive cross-functional teams and foster a culture of continuous improvement. These skills are crucial to ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize operational efficiency within complex production environments.

Position Summary:

The Reliability Manager is responsible for leading Keystone Cement's reliability engineering, maintenance planning, inspection, and preventive maintenance functions to maximize equipment reliability, optimize asset performance, and minimize unplanned downtime. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this position provides strategic leadership for the plant's reliability program while partnering closely with the Maintenance Execution Manager and Electrical Maintenance Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.

The Reliability Manager oversees all maintenance planning and scheduling activities, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment inspection programs, and asset reliability initiatives. This role leads a team of two Reliability Engineers and works collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, and Corporate Engineering to improve equipment performance, increase operational efficiency, and support long-term plant reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership by promoting a culture where safety is the highest priority and ensuring all reliability activities comply with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop two Reliability Engineers while fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Own the plant's maintenance planning and scheduling function, ensuring maintenance work is properly prioritized, planned, and coordinated to maximize equipment availability and maintenance efficiency.
  • Lead and continuously improve the plant's preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, inspection, lubrication, and condition monitoring programs to reduce equipment failures and extend asset life.
  • Develop and implement reliability strategies and maintenance standards that improve equipment performance and support safe, dependable plant operations.
  • Analyze equipment performance, maintenance history, and operational data to identify reliability improvement opportunities and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations for significant equipment failures and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
  • Establish, monitor, and report key reliability metrics, including equipment availability, preventive maintenance compliance, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), maintenance backlog, and schedule compliance.
  • Partner closely with the Maintenance Execution Manager to ensure planned maintenance work is executed safely, efficiently, and with minimal impact to production.
  • Collaborate with the Electrical Maintenance Manager to improve the reliability of electrical, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems.
  • Work closely with Operations to optimize equipment performance while balancing production objectives with long-term asset reliability.
  • Lead maintenance planning activities for annual and major plant outages, partnering with Corporate Engineering to develop work scopes, schedules, contractor plans, and resource requirements.
  • Support capital improvement projects by providing reliability engineering expertise during equipment selection, installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Ensure the effective utilization and continuous improvement of the plant's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including asset hierarchy, preventive maintenance optimization, work order quality, and maintenance data integrity.
  • Promote standardized maintenance practices, reliability-centered maintenance principles, and continuous improvement initiatives across the maintenance organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent education and relevant industry experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive reliability engineering, maintenance planning, or maintenance leadership experience within a cement manufacturing facility or a comparable heavy industrial environment such as mining, aggregates, steel, chemicals, pulp and paper, power generation, or similar process manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading maintenance planning, preventive maintenance, inspection, and asset reliability programs.
  • Strong knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), and preventive maintenance optimization.
  • Working knowledge of heavy industrial process equipment, including crushing systems, conveying equipment, rotating equipment, kilns, mills, hydraulic systems, and material handling equipment.
  • Experience utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and build collaborative working relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Annual performance-based incentive bonus.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Company-sponsored life insurance and disability coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching contributions.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and other paid time off programs.
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities within Titan America.

Success in the Role:

The successful candidate will be a proactive, hands-on leader who is passionate about improving equipment reliability and operational performance. This individual will effectively partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Corporate Engineering to build a best-in-class reliability program that enhances safety, increases equipment availability, reduces maintenance costs, and supports Keystone Cement's commitment to operational excellence.
