Job Purpose

The Maintenance and Reliability Manager will lead and manage the Reading Plant Maintenance Department with a strong focus on equipment reliability, safety, and operational excellence. Drive maintenance strategy and execution to ensure production, quality, health, safety, environmental, and cost performance targets are achieved.

Provide leadership and accountability to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance operations while building a proactive, reliability-centered maintenance culture across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Compliance, and Culture

Ensure the application of all safety rules and confirm maintenance personnel consistently follow safe working practices

Promote safety programs, behaviors, and compliance with corporate and regulatory standards

Support process safety management, mechanical integrity, and management of change processes

Maintenance Strategy and Reliability

Establish and monitor maintenance performance goals through key performance indicators

Develop and implement robust predictive and preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability

Review and prioritize predictive and preventive maintenance feedback and ensure timely completion of all tasks

Analyze equipment maintenance and repair history to identify trends, prevent recurrence of failures, and implement corrective actions

Track cost savings and operational improvements resulting from reliability initiatives

Conduct root cause failure analysis and failure modes and effects analysis

Perform equipment criticality assessments and develop effective maintenance strategies

Lead programs to identify and eliminate repeat equipment failures

Systems and Work Processes

Own and manage the site computerized maintenance management system, including equipment structure, naming conventions, and standardized work tasks

Standardize preventive and predictive maintenance procedures and consolidate work processes

Develop and maintain spare parts strategies to ensure equipment availability

Ensure consistent use of maintenance best practices throughout the department

Improve purchasing and storeroom management processes

Execute work using standardized company work processes and continuously drive improvements

Team Leadership and Development

Lead, coach, and develop maintenance personnel to achieve high performance and accountability

Hold the team responsible for safety, productivity, and results

Assess staff competency levels and identify training or hiring needs

Monitor workforce utilization and manage overtime requirements

Initiate and coordinate training programs to strengthen maintenance and operations capabilities

Key Responsibilities Cont.

Projects and Contractor Management

Serve as the primary maintenance representative on capital and expense projects

Promote equipment standardization, maintainability, and long-term reliability during project design and implementation

Develop equipment maintenance plans and spare parts strategies for new installations

Supervise contractors performing work on site and ensure proper selection, induction, and oversight

Interact with suppliers of equipment, engineering, and construction services

Prepare project cost estimates and write appropriation requests for maintenance projects

Financial and Administrative Management

Lead the department annual budgeting process and monitor performance against budget targets

Identify opportunities to improve cost effectiveness and efficiency

Prepare and approve timecards

Monitor and report overtime

Prepare periodic budget reports

Ensure compliance with quality management system requirements

Manage documentation and administrative requirements

Address performance and disciplinary matters as needed

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline preferred
or five to eight years of maintenance and reliability leadership experience in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.

Technical Knowledge

Experience implementing mechanical integrity, predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance, root cause failure analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and equipment maintenance strategies

Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems and enterprise resource planning systems

Basic knowledge of electrical and control systems

Ability to analyze maintenance data and improve processes

Ability to produce project cost estimates

Skills and Abilities

Strong computer skills and ability to learn specialized maintenance software

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to collaborate across multiple organizational levels

Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills

Strong focus on continuous improvement

Ability to optimize short- and long-term asset performance and availability

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb in a manufacturing environment

Ability to wear required personal protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, respirators, gloves, and protective clothing

Ability to access all areas of the plant safely

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for these skills is:  $106,000 $118,000.  This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
