Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven EHS Supervisor to support a mining client in the Midland, TX area. This position plays a critical leadership role in developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs across active mining operations.

Working closely with site leadership and corporate EHS teams, the EHS Supervisor will ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and client-specific regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture. This individual will spend significant time in the field, partnering with operations personnel to identify risks, implement solutions, and drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is proactive, highly organized, and capable of influencing employees at all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership & Compliance

  • Implement, administer, and enforce site-wide safety, health, and environmental programs

  • Ensure compliance with all MSHA, state, federal, and client-specific regulations

  • Prepare and submit required regulatory reports, including MSHA documentation

  • Maintain compliance with all permits and environmental requirements

Training & Development

  • Lead and manage site safety training programs, including new hire onboarding and annual refresher training

  • Promote workforce engagement and awareness of EHS policies and best practices

  • Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and employees on safety-related matters

Field Presence & Risk Management

  • Maintain a strong field presence (approximately 60% of time) to monitor operations and proactively address safety concerns

  • Conduct inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented

  • Build strong working relationships with field personnel and site leadership

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development

  • Document and track incidents using client-required systems (e.g., IndustrySafe or similar platforms)

  • Support industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring as needed

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance

  • Lead or support site EHS committees and initiatives

  • Serve as a key resource during emergency response situations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and organized training and compliance records

  • Ensure contractor compliance with client safety standards

  • Stay current on EHS regulations and industry best practices through ongoing professional development

Work Environment & Schedule
  • Primarily field-based role within an active mining operation

  • Approximately 60% of time spent in the field

  • Flexible schedule required, with ability to respond to emergencies as needed

  • Some travel may be required

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field preferred

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience in EHS within mining, construction, or heavy industrial environments

  • Strong knowledge of MSHA regulations, standards, and inspection processes

  • Proven ability to lead safety programs and influence a positive safety culture

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of an organization

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
