Job description

AMG Vanadium (AMG V) is seeking a Plant Metallurgist to support our Cambridge and Zanesville, Ohio teams. In this role you will provide metallurgical guidance to internal departments, utilize knowledge and experience to interpret analysis results, assess internal processes, process failure root cause, and provide solution recommendations.

Responsibilities and Duties (all other duties as assigned)
  • Lead by example and comply with all AMG V safety and environmental requirements and Company policies and procedures, including AMGโ€™s Code of Business Conduct.
  • Embrace and promote the AMG V culture in all day-to-day activities; foster and promote a positive, respectful work environment that is aligned with AMGโ€™s Values.
  • Performs investigations related to customer claims of substandard material.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives, assisting with operational efficiencies and sustainable best practice results; helps create a culture of continuous improvement throughout the Company
  • Responsible for the development, application, and maintenance of quality controls systems for materials used in our process.
  • Performs periodic audits of quality systems for the purpose of assuring continued conformance to the quality system.
  • Uses Statistical Process Control (SPC), Advanced Quality Process (AQP) tools and metrics to identify and implement improvements to processes.
  • Manages metallurgical workflow and report database.
  • Creates and manages internal material, process, and verification standards.
  • Consults on material specifications and processes for design and manufacturing.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Metallurgy or Material Sciences is greatly preferred; related degree and equivalent years of experience may be considered.
  • 5 or more yearsโ€™ experience in steel or metals industry preferred; heavy manufacturing experience a strong plus
  • Knowledge of or experience working in ISO 9001 system is required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required (written and verbal).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles preferred; demonstrated ability to thrive in a continuous improvement culture.
  • Ability to adapt easily to change and lead others through it.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, organizational, operational, and follow-through skills.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Project Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and data base systems
  • Team player: ability to work effectively across functional lines including internal and external customers.
