Plant Metallurgist - comm'l heat treat
Seeking an experienced Process Metallurgist with expertise in Ion and Gas Nitriding, a surface hardening process for a wide variety of markets.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, or related field
  • 5+ years working for a commercial heat treat
  • Knowledgeable in ISO9001 and/or NADCAP quality systems

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Calculate process variable necessary to achieve specifications by using historical run data and charts, case depth, as well as other appropriate information related to heat treatment
  • Writes process instructions, where applicable, by determining process parameters required to achieve customer requirements
  • Become proficient in Laboratory equipment and release procedures and help manage lab and backup Lab Technicians
  • Creates graphics and directions for detailed work and lab aids
  • Promotes continuous improvement by managing See Something Say Something program and Employee Continuous Improvement Program
  • Work with CI Manager to host or cohost Continuous Improvement events and drive interest and activity
  • Promote and execute quality specs, procedures and processing standards. Provide technical support to QA Coordinator to ensure process instructions comply with all quality and processing requirements
  • Ensure shop floor understands, complies and are trained on specific processing and/or quality requirements
  • Coordinates customer relations by investigating and reporting any complaints or problems to the Plant Manager, Materials & Process Manager and Quality Coordinator
  • Complies with established quality procedures in the performance and documentation of work performed
