Process Improvement Consulting information

What is process improvement consulting?

Process improvement consulting is a specialized service where experts analyze a company's existing processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for enhancement. Consultants work closely with organizations to design and implement effective strategies that streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve overall productivity. This often involves methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Agile to drive continuous improvement and achieve measurable results. The ultimate goal is to help businesses operate more efficiently and remain competitive in their industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a process improvement consultant?

To thrive as a Process Improvement Consultant, you need strong analytical abilities, a background in business or engineering, and experience with process mapping and workflow optimization. Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma methodologies, and tools like Visio or Minitab, as well as relevant certifications (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Black Belt), is typically required. Exceptional communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills help consultants engage stakeholders and drive change. These skills ensure consultants can identify inefficiencies, implement effective solutions, and deliver measurable improvements for organizations.

What are some typical challenges faced by process improvement consultants when implementing changes within client organizations?

Process improvement consultants often encounter resistance to change from employees who are accustomed to existing workflows. Navigating organizational politics and balancing the priorities of different stakeholders can also be challenging. Additionally, consultants must ensure that recommendations are both practical and sustainable, requiring effective communication and training strategies. Building trust and demonstrating quick wins are essential for gaining buy-in and driving successful, long-term improvements.

Job description

At Standard Textile, we're dedicated to providing comfort and care across generations. Guided by our values, we focus on solutions that serve our customers, support our associates, and strengthen our communities. Since 1940, we've remained committed to creating better textiles-delivered seamlessly by experts who care.

As a Healthcare Process Improvement Specialist, you'll partner directly with hospitals and health systems across the Western U.S. to improve linen utilization, inventory management, workflow efficiency, and overall operational performance. Working alongside our Sales team, you'll assess current-state operations, recommend improvements, and support the implementation and adoption of linen management software solutions that drive measurable results.

This is a highly customer-facing role for someone who is comfortable working inside hospitals, engaging healthcare leaders, and leading change initiatives. We're seeking candidates who understand healthcare operations and have a track record of improving processes within hospital environments.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct on-site assessments of hospital linen, laundry, supply chain, and support service operations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance service performance.
  • Partner with hospital leaders in Supply Chain, Environmental Services, Linen Services, Nursing, Infection Prevention, and Finance.
  • Support the implementation, training, and adoption of linen management and inventory software solutions.
  • Use data and analytics to measure performance, identify opportunities, and demonstrate ROI.
  • Collaborate with Sales to support customer discovery, solution design, and implementation.
  • Drive sustainable process improvements through training, change management, and best practices.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience working directly with hospitals or health systems.
  • Experience leading operational improvement, consulting, implementation, or service excellence initiatives in healthcare settings.
  • Strong customer-facing experience with the ability to influence hospital stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Experience with healthcare linen, laundry, environmental services, supply chain, materials management, or related support services strongly preferred.
  • Experience implementing or supporting operational technology, software, or service-based solutions.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Operations, Engineering, or a related field.

The ideal candidate has successfully worked inside hospitals, understands healthcare operations, and can help customers improve outcomes through a combination of process improvement, linen management expertise, and software adoption.
