The Business Excellence Manager (BEM) is responsible for managing Customer Product Planning (CPP) and Cost Reduction Program (CRP) resources. The Business Excellence Manager (BEM) is a key interface within the Product Business Unit (PBU) to help communicate and coordinate cross functionally regionally and globally.

Acquisition process improvement, acquisition KPI's, and strategic alignment with Sales, CBU Directors,  CBU PMO, Purchasing, and Operations is critical to the success of this role.

Must demonstrate product knowledge of components, assemblies, and manufacturing processes. 

Job Duties:

Acquisition

  • Lead the CPP resources/activities for the associated PBU.
  • Targeted business acquisition plan development including benchmarking, BOM target pricing, initial design development, and quotation development.
  • Lead the cross functional teams to bring all inputs together and challenge appropriately to support the on-time quote submission.
  • Align with GPL and other regions on component development toward market demands on product and cost to support targeted business.
  • Engage Sales and the PBU to communicate with customers and develop working relationships.
  • Ensure each sales target has a robust forward-looking acquisition plan.
  • Drive functions to develop methods to increase efficiency and accuracy of quotes (purchasing, logistics, operations, and engineering).
  • Preview and understand all new business quotes submitted in support of the CPP resource.
  • Ensure current AOP targets and future AOP targets are clear and communicated frequently to the PBU team.
  • Critical interface to advanced manufacturing to ensure plant process, capacity, and staffing is competitive for new acquisition.

CRP

  • Lead the CRP resources/activities for the associated PBU.
  • Coordinate with PBU PMO to ensure Profit Improvement Tracker (P.I.T) & BOM 2.0 outcomes are migrated to the total PBU savings plan.
  • Responsible for ensuring the savings plan is accurate and effective in showing status and pipeline of future ideas.
  • Support CRP resource in generating business case savings calculations considering manpower, tooling, validation, manufacturing, and supply chain.
  • Take decisions on CRP actions that do not meet the criteria as being acceptable.
  • Monthly progress reports for product line reviews must be available.
  • Support development of the annual CRP savings target to support the AOP budget process.

Efficiency

  • Continuously strengthen Global Product Line relationships to make the acquisition process more efficient through standardized BOM models and preferred solutions where possible.
  • Ensure Central Manufacturing continuously is streamlining process and headcount parameters for new acquisition to limit iterations.
  • Identify sources of error in the quoting process and build plants directly with the PBU team or support functions to permanently fix.
  • Coordinate with Sales to get a single aligned reporting format of targets, quote negotiation status, and win/loss intelligence to communicate with the PBU team.
  • Eliminate redundant reporting and excessive reporting formats.

Strategic

  • Work closely with other product line Business Excellence Managers (BEM) to have common alignment where possible.
  • Prepare quarterly Product Strategy Meeting (PSM) presentations collaboratively with functions to show case current state and future looking plans with a heavy focus on acquisition, cost, and competitiveness.
  • Build strategy to understand OEM trends, technology desires, and communicate those needs effectively to the PBU and GPL.
  • Ensure alignment with Sales on monthly reporting on business acquisition status and targets.
  • Informing management about decisions and actions in the department with escalation when needed.
  • Ensure a highly collaborative work style with all PBU leaders and resources.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision to manage a project team of 3-5 people.
  • Highly skilled at taking enormous quantities of information and presenting it in a clear and concise manner.
  • Possesses knowledge of manufacturing processes and business cycles; open to learning in areas where skills are still being developed.
  • Must be willing to travel 5%-10% domestically and internationally for internal site visits.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent degree required
  • 8+ years automotive experience
