Job description

Manufacturing Process Engineer
Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer who will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves supporting new product introductions, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and collaboration across multiple teams, including Production, Quality, Maintenance, and R amp;D. The role will also provide technical support for all North America sites.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • ​Analyze current manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost.
  • Design and implement process enhancements, ensuring scalability and repeatability for new product introductions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  • Maintain and update SAP routings to ensure accurate process flow and production standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process deviations and failures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Maintenance, R amp;D) to resolve technical issues and align on process changes.
  • Develop Process Audits to ensure compliance with Allied’s Quality Systems.
  • Monitor process performance using KPIs and statistical tools; recommend and execute corrective actions as needed.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects using methodologies such as Six Sigma.
  • Assist in the design and development of tooling, fixtures, and equipment to optimize production.
  • Perform time studies, process validation, and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Troubleshoot process deviations and drive improvements in throughput, yield, and product quality.
  • Support equipment selection, layout design, and commissioning for new or upgraded production lines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across all operations.
  • Train operators and technicians on new processes, equipment, and best practices.
  • Support all North America sites as needed. Travel up to 10% required.
Qualifications
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science, or related field) or equivalent work experience.
  • Requires at least 5 years of work experience in manufacturing process engineering.
  • Previous experience in refractory, ceramics, or high-temperature materials manufacturing is a plus.
  • Must have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including batching, mixing, and packaging.
  • Must be proficient with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with manufacturing systems (e.g., SAP, MES).
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and process modeling software is beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with process mapping, PFMEA, and control plans.
  • Experience in extrusion processes, with a preference for refractory plastics extrusion preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills.
