Job description

Scope of Position:

The Engineering Supervisor provides direct leadership and oversight to a team of Designers, Engineers, and Draftspeople. This role is responsible for managing projects, assigning tasks, allocating resources, and providing technical guidance and support, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The Supervisor oversees daily engineering operations to ensure work is executed efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with organizational objectives. This position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to develop and implement engineering strategies and initiatives. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

What you'll do on a typical day:
  • Lead the local Engineering team, providing training, coaching, and ensuring adherence to procedures outlined in the Quality Management System (QMS) and Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers to understand needs and strengthen senior-level relationships.
  • Collaborate with Technical Sales Consultants, customers, sub-consultants, and other design professionals to deliver cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Assign tasks, define clear objectives, and monitor team performance and outcomes.
  • Design or delegate the design of formwork, shoring, and scaffolding solutions for a variety of construction projects.
  • Coordinate with stamping engineers to ensure all designs comply with applicable national and local standards (e.g., CSA, OHSA, Building Codes).
  • Manage team schedules, including overtime and time off, to maintain service efficiency.
  • Direct or perform structural analyses to ensure safety, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee preparation of general arrangement, fabrication, and assembly drawings in 2D and 3D.
  • Provide conceptual and technical guidance to Draftspeople, Designers, and Engineers, reviewing and validating their work.
  • Supervise creation and verification of material lists.
  • Approve or coordinate authentication of drawings and calculations.
  • Ensure project deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, up-to-date engineering invoices for submission and approval.
  • Coordinate invoicing for engineering services.
  • Recruit, train, and manage performance of direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment, providing coaching, support, and growth opportunities.
  • Mentor Draftspeople, Designers, Engineers, and Engineers-in-Training (EITs).
  • Identify skill gaps and arrange relevant technical or professional training.
  • Conduct annual and mid-year feedback and development discussions.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Exemplify PERI's core values, leadership principles, and success factors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need to be successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or actively working toward obtaining one, is an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in structural engineering and/or construction, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with structural analysis software.
  • Experience in formwork design; scaffolding experience is an asset.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian and Provincial Building Codes; familiarity with European standards is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of PERI products.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
