Summary Objective

As a member of the technical staff, the Mechanical Engineer Manager is responsible for the design of modular TIAC (Turbine Inlet Air Cooling) Plant, CHP, Mission Critical and District Cooling Plant up to full production. This includes specification reviews, mechanical calculation, and selection to meet process, code, and client requirements; conduct design reviews; coordinate with other disciplines, client and fabrication for production. The Mechanical Engineer Manager will also be responsible for technical support of all products currently in production.

Essential Functions
  • Manage mechanical engineers and mechanical design engineers.
  • Undertake engineering and design work independently.
  • Maintain individual accountability for the quality and accuracy of all such engineering and design work within the mechanical engineer and design teams.
  • Accomplish tasks within the company procedures, specifications, standards, and any project specific addenda.
  • Write manufacturing and test procedures and reports.
  • Participate in project teams and all activities related to the development of the modular plant.
  • Provide technical support to sales and marketing for bids and proposals, such as schematics, equipment selection and specification review.
  • Prepare and review mechanical specifications and necessary control documents based on project execution plan prior to commencement of any engineering or design activities.
  • Prepare design deliverables including basic design, engineering lists, P&IDs, data sheets, technical specifications, calculations, numerical model, and other study reports in support of procurement, fabrication, installation, and construction.
  • Support and provide technical leadership in vendor technical clarification meetings and technical evaluation of bids.
  • Undertake the Stellar Energy factory supervision work or site supervision when required.
  • Provide technical assistance to the project team as required (e.g. subcontract evaluation, scope definition, design schematics etc.).
  • Maintain good interface with other disciplines.
  • Technical capacity.

Work Location

This position will work out of our facilities in Jacksonville, FL. This position is not approved for telecommuting or working remotely.

Work Environment

Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to the fabrication shop for observation and support may be necessary which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and head protection.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

Anticipated 20% travel for this position. Some occasional local day travel may also be necessary.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or chemical engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum of five years of working experience in power plant or HVAC design or similar projects.
  • Competent in the selection and establishing technical requirements for general mechanical equipment including pumps, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Competent in piping system design, including pipe material and class specification, pipe stress analysis, valve selection, etc.
  • Familiar with local and international codes, standards, and regulations, and their implementation.
  • Familiar with design procedure and inter-discipline interface support.
  • Familiar with engineering quality management.
  • Familiar with module design and fabrication practices.
  • Competent in the preparation of engineering deliverables to appropriate levels of development for all project phases.
  • Familiar with the market and vendors for each type of mechanical equipment.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering from an accredited University.
  • Professional Engineer Registration.
  • 8 + years of experience leading the engineering and design of mechanical waterside and air-side heat transfer systems (power plant, industrial, or similar).
  • Demonstrated success in the technical leadership of an engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD preferred).
  • Knowledge of Fluid flow analysis software.
