Process Engineering Manager – Stack Forging Thermal Solutions

Join the movement as a Builder on the Stack Forging Thermal Solutions team at Johnson Controls as a Process Engineering Manager in Burlington, MA.

As a Process Engineering Manager at Johnson Controls, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our advanced manufacturing technologies. You’ll lead the development, optimization, and control of complex processes that power JCI’s breakthrough innovations—bringing together expertise across process control, metallurgy, machinery controls, chemistry, and experimental design.

In this role, you won’t just manage processes—you’ll build and scale a high‑performing Process Engineering team, fostering a culture that is not only technically rigorous, but also collaborative and supportive.

You’ll spend time both in the lab and on the production floor, translating theory into practice, accelerating learning cycles, and driving continuous improvement where it matters most.

If you have experience developing a wide range of technical skills over your career, including deep expertise in a few relevant domains—printing, laser processing, coil handling, chemistry, metallurgy, controls, embedded firmware, PLCs, and experimental design—this could be your next opportunity!

You will have the opportunity to delegate effectively to your team by establishing clear, productive organizational systems and naturally evaluating and adjusting them.

Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in an engineering discipline, ideally within a complex manufacturing or process intensive environment.
  • High-performing individual contributor experience on one or more teams and 2+ years of proven experience managing and leading a technical engineering team.
  • Proven experience with key manufacturing process development tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, FMEA, SPC, or MSA).
Preferred Qualifications
  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant engineering or scientific field.
  • Deep expertise in one or more core process disciplines: process control, experimental design (DOE), or metallurgy, chemistry, manufacturing, or 3D printing.
  • Technical background or direct experience with laser processing, complex metal forming, or high-volume manufacturing readiness for advanced materials.
  • Experience in metal additive manufacturing, specialized forming processes, or thermal management systems.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing, knowledge of what it takes to tweak a process or part to make 10,000’s of a part per year.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear project scopes and business-aligned technology roadmaps.
Compensation & Benefits
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $130,000 - $200,000.
  • Competitive bonus plan tied to individual, group, and corporate performance.
  • Competitive benefits package.
