Job description

Company:
Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc.
Job Description:
Shape the Future of Advanced Film Manufacturing
At Mitsubishi Chemical, our film products power applications that matter-from packaging to industrial and specialty uses. We're looking for a Process Engineer who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and is excited to optimize, innovate, and improve high-speed film production lines.
In this role, you'll be a technical leader on the floor-driving safety, quality, productivity, and cost improvements while partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, R&D, and Commercial teams.
What You'll Do
As a Process Engineer, you'll play a critical role in strengthening process capability and operational excellence across our film lines:
Process & Operational Excellence
  • Provide daily technical troubleshooting support for safety, quality, and productivity challenges.
  • Analyze and trend process KPIs to drive continuous improvement in safety, yield, efficiency, and cost.
  • Develop, update, and sustain process documentation and Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs).
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Safety Leadership
  • Proactively identify and implement process and equipment safety improvements.
  • Support safe work practices for daily operations.
  • Participate in environmental, health, and safety audits to ensure regulatory and company compliance.

Project & Innovation Support
  • Coordinate and support planned downtime events, process upgrades, and capital projects.
  • Support new process development, product commercialization, and trial execution.
  • Partner with R&D and Commercial teams to translate innovation into reliable manufacturing processes.

Collaboration & People Development
  • Train and mentor operators and training personnel on new processes and equipment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Safety, R&D, and Sales.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource in a team-based manufacturing culture.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3-6 years of experience in Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Continuous Improvement roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Proven troubleshooting, data analysis, and statistical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to provide off-hours support for a 24/7 manufacturing operation.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with film processing and film manufacturing equipment.
  • Hands-on experience in high-speed, continuous manufacturing environments.

Skills That Set You Apart
  • Ownership mindset with a passion for improving how things work.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.
  • Strategic thinker with strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, data analysis tools, and project management fundamentals.
  • Business-fluent English.

Why This Role Is Exciting
  • High-Impact, Hands-On Engineering: You'll work directly on film manufacturing lines where your ideas and solutions immediately improve safety, quality, and productivity-not a desk-only role.
  • End-to-End Ownership: From troubleshooting daily issues to supporting capital projects, process upgrades, and new product commercialization, you'll see your work move from concept to production.
  • Advanced Film Technology: Gain exposure to complex film processing equipment and cutting-edge materials used in diverse, real-world applications.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, R&D, and Commercial teams-your voice will matter in decisions that shape manufacturing performance.
  • Continuous Improvement Culture: Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and data-driven problem-solving in an environment that values innovation and practical improvement.
  • Career Growth & Visibility: This role offers strong visibility with site leadership and clear pathways for growth within Mitsubishi Chemical's global organization.
  • Safety-First Mindset: Be a leader in creating safer processes and systems while working for a company that prioritizes people and sustainability.
