Job Description
Boyd Thermal by Eaton is currently seeking a Quality Manager for our Woburn, MA facility.
Eaton is a global leader in intelligent power management, serving customers in more than 160 countries. Following our recent acquisition of Boyd Corporation's aerospace and defense business, we are strengthening our expertise in high-performance thermal management solutions. The Woburn facility specializes in the design and manufacturing of Aluminum Vacuum Brazed Heat Exchangers and Cold Plates for critical aerospace and defense applications. We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead quality assurance and compliance efforts, ensuring the highest standards of product reliability and customer satisfaction.
Position Summary
The Quality Manager will oversee all quality-related activities at the Woburn site, including quality assurance, quality control, compliance with aerospace and defense standards, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role works closely with the Process Engineering Manager, Production, and cross-functional teams to maintain and elevate product quality while supporting operational excellence in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Quality System Management
  • Lead and maintain the site's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and other relevant aerospace/defense standards.
  • Ensure effective implementation of quality policies, procedures, and documentation.

Product Quality Assurance
  • Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities for Aluminum Vacuum Brazed Heat Exchangers and Cold Plates.
  • Implement robust quality control plans, including statistical process control (SPC), first article inspection (FAI), and non-conformance management.

Compliance and Auditing
  • Manage internal, customer, and regulatory audits; ensure timely closure of findings.
  • Maintain compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other export control requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns and audits.

Supplier Quality
  • Develop and manage the supplier quality program, including supplier evaluations, audits, and performance monitoring.
  • Drive corrective actions with suppliers to resolve quality issues.

Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead problem-solving efforts using tools such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and PFMEA.
  • Collaborate with the Process Engineering and Maintenance teams to identify and eliminate root causes of quality issues.
  • Track and improve key quality metrics (e.g., scrap rate, first-pass yield, customer returns, PPM).

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Process Engineering, Production, and Engineering teams during New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure quality requirements are integrated from the design phase.
  • Provide quality support for production issue resolution and process validation.

Training and Development
  • Develop and deliver quality training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Mentor and lead the Quality team to build technical expertise and a strong quality culture.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance
  • Support the site's Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives, ensuring quality activities align with overall workplace safety.
  • Stay current with evolving industry standards and regulations.

Basic Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in quality management
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience with AS9100 certification and audits.
  • Experience managing quality systems in precision manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes.
  • Experience and proficiency with quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
