Position Overview:The Industrial Engineer will perform complex assignments pertaining to a variety of subjects concerning planning, improvement, modernization, analysis, and the installation of integrated systems of personnel, materials, and equipment dedicated to accomplishing the depot mission. This position will perform shop relocations, installation of new facilities, and development of technical data requirements for the procurement of equipment or services. The Industrial Engineer will investigate specific production problems, such as machine or production line capabilities. This position requires an understanding of how to match production requirements against capabilities and modify or establish new production lines to meet production requirements.Position Responsibilities:Coordinate entire assignments from initiation through completion, including design, modification, and installation activities.Prepare sketches, wiring diagrams, and drawings in the performance of assignments.Prepare parts lists and bills of material.Provide technical supervision to staff assigned to support the successful completion of production tasks.Serve as a project engineer on highly complex projects.Authorize suitable substitutes for unavailable materials and parts.Prepare work orders and estimates of cost, time, and facilities.Provide technical advice to shop personnel on production problems.Prepare procedures for manufacturing overhaul processes and equipment.Conduct necessary searches of technical literature and perform tests to formulate specific requirements for incorporation into manufacturing and overhaul procedures.Act as a liaison with manufacturers' representatives and higher headquarters to exchange technical information and provide assistance in repairing, troubleshooting, and resolving equipment or manufacturing overhaul problems.Determine the causes of deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.Prepare technical performance specifications as required.Provide technical advice to contracting personnel through engineering evaluations of bids submitted by manufacturers.Conduct tests of new equipment and prepare test and maintenance procedures as required.Prepare detailed installation and procedural instructions to be followed by depot personnel.Serve as Contracting Officer Representative (COR).Attend seminars and visit industrial and government activities to maintain knowledge of industrial engineering technology.Assist shops in the fulfillment of the depot repair mission.Experience Requirements:Three years' experience as related experience; additional education (MA/PhD) may be substituted for up to 1 year experience.Broad knowledge of engineering or architectural theories and methods sufficient to determine and execute actions for a wide range of assignments involving complex features.Working knowledge of analyzing and evaluating phases of work and/or problems related to assigned duties and selecting the appropriate course of action from acceptable alternatives.Ability to conduct technical analyses and perform field and laboratory work to achieve desired products or services.Ability to recognize and evaluate the interrelationships among various strategies, standards, and activities.Developed skill in applying established techniques and methodologies to resolve a variety of conventional problems.Ability to maintain effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, agency officials, and all levels of management to influence and persuade individuals or groups, establish rapport, and obtain information.Capability to use judgment in researching, selecting, interpreting, modifying, and applying available guidelines to specific problems and issues.Experience in devising and overseeing specialized information technology systems, processes, and applications related to assigned work and the delivery of associated designs.Ability to develop solutions that modify standard practices and resolve a wide variety of complex issues as they arise.Ability to serve as a principal contributor on team-based projects.Proficiency in preparing, presenting, and evaluating plans, designs, and reports.Education Requirements:Four-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from accreditedcollege or university. Accreditation of educational institution must come from an institutionrecognized by either the United States Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for HigherEducation Accreditation (CHEA).Requires an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one. Physical Demands:This work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, or driving a motor vehicle in activities such as inspections or installed equipment and visits to construction sites and industrial, commercial, agricultural, and other business establishments.
