Job description

STS Technical Services is hiring an AI Process Optimization Engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This role supports the design, development and deployment of custom AI-powered applications that improve efficiency, automation and productivity across the organization.
This position is ideal for a forward-thinking software developer with experience using AI-assisted development tools, modern programming languages and workflow automation platforms. The AI Process Optimization Engineer will work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to understand business workflows and translate them into scalable, secure and practical internal solutions.
Position Overview
The AI Process Optimization Engineer will help build and maintain internal software capabilities that protect company data, processes and intellectual property. This role will support business functions including Sales, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain and IT by identifying opportunities for automation, optimization and AI-enabled process improvement.
The position reports to the President.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, build and deploy custom applications using AI-assisted development tools to improve operational efficiency and productivity
  • Partner with stakeholders across Sales, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain and IT to identify opportunities for automation and optimization
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate solutions using modern AI coding assistants, low-code/no-code platforms and generative AI tools
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions with a focus on speed, usability and scalability
  • Maintain ownership of internally developed systems while ensuring data security, integrity and compliance
  • Evaluate and enhance existing third-party AI applications where appropriate
  • Prioritize in-house development for core workflows
  • Contribute to the development of a structured AI adoption framework and governance model
  • Stay current on emerging AI technologies and recommend tools or approaches that accelerate development velocity
  • Document applications, workflows and development standards to support long-term scalability

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3 to 7+ years of software development experience, flexible depending on expertise
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools for development, including:
  • Generative AI coding assistants, such as Copilot-style tools
  • AI APIs, including LLMs, embeddings and automation frameworks
  • Rapid development platforms or frameworks
  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, C# or similar
  • Experience building web-based applications, internal tools or workflow automation solutions
  • Understanding of API integrations, data pipelines and system architecture
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or similar
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to quickly translate ideas into working solutions

Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks or orchestration tools
  • Experience with RAG, retrieval-augmented generation, automation agents or workflow AI
  • Experience with low-code/no-code tools integrated with AI
