Job description

JOB TITLE: Process Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Process Engineering Manager

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Document all processes by product to ensure predictability and repeatability. 

2. Perform continuous improvement analysis of both the equipment and processes. 

  1. Develop plans and documentation for upcoming production and trial runs. 

4. Develop and maintain all standards documentation including running conditions, troubleshooting guidelines, visual standards, and process documentation.

5. Write and train all process personnel on improvements in new and existing procedures.

6. Recommend and participate in decisions regarding equipment upgrades, improvements, and necessary capital expenditures.

7. Participate and provide support for all new product and manufacturing trials to include development of operating plan, training of line personnel, set up and run documentation and trial result analysis.

8. Participate in reject analysis, customer complaints and material review board activities as required.

  1. Participate and assist in coordination and completion of weekly production plan activities.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred; however, a combination of equivalent formal education and manufacturing experience is acceptable. 

 Experience: 

  1. 2-4 years of manufacturing experience in a plastics processing environment
  2. Strong understanding of polymer chemistry preferred 
  3. Extrusion background, in particular, sheet extrusion and laminating running multiple lines
  4. Experience with working and/or managing in a TQM and ISO 9000 environment

 Skills:

  1. Leadership and ability to motivate individuals and teams
  2. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  3. Ability to interface effectively at all organizational levels both internally and externally
  4. Strong personal computer usage and familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, word processing and production & inventory control systems
  5. Ability to manage multiple priorities
  6. Ability to work independently with little direction
  7. Ability to take control of events and deal effectively with pressure and stress related to custom-based manufacturing
  8. Ability to establish clear objective and pertinent measurement systems

Ability to troubleshoot plastics-related process and product problems
