Job Description
This position is a Quality Engineer responsible for supporting the operating units in the identification of coil defects and quality awareness throughout the site.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and "where applicable" ResponsibleSteel
  2. requirements are followed.
  3. Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are followed and are a priority.
  4. Verify laboratory equipment in accordance with On-site Laboratory Scope and controls and support laboratory functions as needed.
  5. Support all operational units to ensure product defects are identified and rated quickly and efficiently; Interface with Sales and production to ensure customer satisfaction.
  6. Assist with the coordination and preparation of sample submission packages.
  7. Support customer quality concerns.
  8. Conduct investigation of non-conformances and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  9. Work with Manufacturing to solve in-house quality concerns and review of nonconforming product.
  10. Support all Monitoring and Measuring Devices requirements and needs.
  11. Assist Quality Assurance Manager for all site and customer needs.
  12. Disposition of production coils to ensure customer satisfaction for support of scheduling and customer lead times.
  13. Conduct Product Audits.
  14. Assist with sample preparation and analysis for SEM, ternary and grain structure analysis.
  15. Support plant metallurgist to support prompt disposition of production coils to ensure customer satisfaction for support of scheduling and customer lead times.
Qualifications:
  1. Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization
  2. Understanding of product defects and process controls
  3. Knowledge of SPC techniques
  4. Knowledge of Quality System requirements
  5. Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent is a plus
  6. Knowledge and experience in Steel CSP Mills - Mini Mills
  7. Certified Quality Engineer preferred
  8. 5 years' experience in Quality Assurance preferred
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment and the ability to routinely climb, lift and move heavy objects during shift may be required. Typical work hours are 12 hour shifts, which rotate days and nights. This results in working some weekends/holidays and overtime.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
