Job description

ROLE PURPOSE:

Responsible for assisting in optimizing and developing manufacturing processes within their area by collaborating with various teams.

  • Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure EHSQ supports activities and services are carried out in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable, and cost-effective manner.

MAIN responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement process improvements that result in higher throughput, improved efficiencies, recognizable cost savings, and more consistent product quality. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the fundamental functions and responsibilities of the job as defined below.
  • Lead the strategic identification, planning, and execution of process improvements to achieve higher throughput, efficiency, cost savings, and consistent product quality. Lead the execution of Focus Improvements projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Spearhead collaboration efforts among Engineering, Plant Operations, and Innovation to define cutting-edge processes for the plant.
  • Contribute to developing, reviewing, and maintaining process engineering documentation, including mass and energy balances, PFDs, P & IDs, and process descriptions.
  • Oversee the development, review, and maintenance of complex process engineering documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Drive excellence in third-party calculations for equipment specification, maintaining the highest levels of process safety.
  • Direct the start-up of new systems, providing expert training and resolving complex operational challenges.
  • Supervise and guide comprehensive, detailed designs, ensuring alignment with standards, safety, and environmental requirements in coordination with the project engineering team.
  • Formulate supplier engagement strategies to evaluate equipment options and negotiate technical proposals.
  • Assist in conducting risk assessments such as HAZOP and contribute to food safety assessments (cGMP) for projects.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and quality, setting the standard for adherence to company standards.
  • Follow company safety and environmental standards and contribute to their implementation.
  • Assist in risk classification and prioritization related to Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Support the development of Process Capacity Models.
  • Lead OEE Analysis to drive projects and studies to improve plant performance.
  • Support other areas on troubleshooting and investigations when required.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Area Production Engineers.
  • Support Management of Change process.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of an Operational Excellence program.
  • Travel strategically to support critical trials and projects across diverse sites and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

FOOD, ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY DUTY OF CARE:

Food Safety:

  • Carry out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption

Environment:

  • Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions always.
  • Report any environmental violation or near misses to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle

Health & Safety:

  • Adhere to the safety policies, procedures, and site rules
  • Fully participate in the safety program, including reporting any incidents or near misses and auditing

PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

The incumbent will be measured against site EHS, Quality, Production and Reliability

goals.

SKILLS, Training AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field. Master's or Ph.D. degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in process engineering or related leadership roles preferred, including plant experience. 3+ years of experience with Utilities including steam generation, compressed air, chilled water, distillation and WWTP preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of PSM/HAZOP studies
  • Expertise in unit operations, process design, M&E balance, and process data analysis
  • Familiar with AutoCAD, MS Project, Excel
  • Knowledge of the food industry concepts and applications
  • Advanced expertise in process optimization, engineering principles, and relevant tools.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in driving cross-functional collaboration and fostering innovation.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver exceptional results.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Strong commitment to safety leadership and operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of food industry concepts and applications such as equipment hygienic design principles, including approval of product-contact-suitable materials and implementation of effective cleaning processes that take into consideration accessibility, cleanability, drainability, material compatibility, and surface/ geometry.

Tate & Lyle complies with all local/state regulations requiring salary range transparency.

When determining final compensation, we take into consideration: skillset, job scope, knowledge, prior experience, cost of living, market data, budget availability, and other factors as permitted by law.

The salary range for this position is: $90,000 - $135,000.
