Job description


Become a part of the "Bath-Built is Best-Built" tradition. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who has a positive attitude. This role focuses on incoming material inspection, kitting verification, supplier material quality, and driving continuous improvement within warehouse processes. This role is embedded in warehouse operations to ensure materials moving to production maintain compliance with the ISO 9001 standard which is a key requirement for building ships for the US Navy.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse:
  • Material Inspection
    • Inspection of materials within warehouse operations to verify compliance with applicable specifications
  • Kitting Verification
    • Verification of outgoing kitting items to ensure quality product and timely delivery
  • Supplier Material Quality
    • Ensuring that supplier material meets the specifications, communicating with suppliers that have issues, and implementing problem resolution for material.

Safety Leadership:
  • Take personal responsibility for your own safety through hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Ensure practices/processes are safely executed.
  • Communicate safety concerns and model safe behaviors.

Project Execution:
  • Utilize BIW's Business Operating System (BOS) to execute work and communicate progress daily.

Quality Management:
  • Participate in the multitude of roles that quality Engineering takes on to ensure products meet the customers' requirements. This could include, but not be limited to, engineering and manufacturing product audits, equipment care and protection audits, vendor material inspections, vendor quality management system audits, calibration lab audits, as well as others.
  • Collect and review quality data for trends, patterns, and anomalies, and make recommendations for corrective actions in various departmental processes (Engineering, Manufacturing etc.).
  • Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.

Training and Development:
  • Develop and implement work instructions and procedures that govern work done by the Quality team.
  • Take an active role in your development by progressing through the different Quality Team competencies.
  • Work with your leadership team to take advantage of training opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Team Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work with various stakeholders in efforts to identify causes of rework and implement corrections to eliminate it.
  • Lead stakeholder teams to resolve identified quality issues.
  • Report to leadership the identified quality issues and corrective actions taken to resolve the issues.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the QMS and in our daily processes and lead efforts to complete corrective actions to take advantage of those opportunities.
  • Utilize the A3 methodology and BIW's BOS to continually improve quality and results.

Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • Q/A Engineer II (C Level): 2-4 years of experience required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar preferred. Demonstrated employment background in Quality Administration, Trades, Ship-board Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Project Engineering / Management role will be additionally preferred.
  • Q/A Engineer III (D Level): 5+ years of experience required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience in IT, Trades, Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Supervisory Role in Trades Dept. Ability to meet job description with respect to the IT elements is required.
  • BIW Apprentice graduate preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience
  • Background in Warehousing.
  • Practical Experience with ISO9001 or similar system in ship-building or other highly regulated industry such as those stated previously.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and participating in independent audit for certification of known Quality standard (ISO preferred).
  • Working knowledge of planning systems such as MACPAC, shop methods, and construction processes preferred.
  • Experience in direct dealings with U.S. Navy Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SOSB) Quality Engineering a plus.
  • Ability to effectively interface with suppliers, customers, and internal divisions required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Products with demonstrated mid-to-high level experience in MS Excel, Access, Project, and Visio strongly preferred.
  • Experience dealing directly with the Navy or other branches of the Department of Defense (DoD) in either a commercial or military role, a plus.
  • Experience in any marine/shipboard assignments, commercial or military, a plus.
  • Ability to exercise technical writing skills in development and revision of varied procedures.
  • Ability to travel for supplier audits and planning yard support if needed.
