Interns assist in analyzing workflows, improving efficiency, and troubleshooting technical issues under the supervision of experienced engineers. They may work with data collection, process simulations, and quality control initiatives to enhance operations. This internship helps develop problem-solving skills and technical knowledge applicable to industries like manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and energy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Process Engineer Internship position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Process Engineer Intern, you generally need a background in engineering (chemical, mechanical, or industrial), problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of process design and analysis. Familiarity with technical tools like AutoCAD, MATLAB, or process simulation software, and knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies, can be especially valuable. Description

Be a Part of Something that MattersAbout WECC

WECC promotes the reliability and security of the bulk power system in the Western Interconnection. WECC is the Regional Entity responsible for compliance monitoring and enforcement and oversees reliability planning and assessments. In addition, WECC provides an environment for the development of Reliability Standards and the coordination of the operating and planning activities of its members as set forth in the WECC Bylaws.

There are six Regional Entities given authority by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Of those six entities, WECC oversees the largest and most geographically diverse region, known as the Western Interconnection. WECC's footprint extends from Canada to Mexico and includes the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, the northern portion of Baja California, Mexico, and all or portions of the 14 Western states between.

About the Program

The goal of the WECC Internship Program is to offer challenging and meaningful experiences to students.ย

The WECC Internship Program seeks to provide each intern with:ย

  • Challenging work that will support both the student's academic needs and WECC's strategic prioritiesย
  • An intern supervisor who provides continuous leadership, performance feedback, and coaching
  • Opportunities for cross-functional experiences

  • Working with other internal departments to gather external data sets, validate the data, and perform analysis to determine reliability trends about the operation of the Western Interconnection
  • Helping evaluate WECC's planning cases to determine and implement any updatesย

The reliability engineer will work with various departments, giving the intern wide exposure to the organization. The reliability engineer can expect to gain an intimate understanding of WECC's Reliability Planning and Performance Analysis department and directly influence how the Western Interconnection maintains reliability.ย
