Process Engineer Intern information

What are Process Engineer Interns?

Process Engineer Interns are students or recent graduates who work temporarily in engineering teams to support the design, optimization, and improvement of manufacturing processes. They typically assist with data collection, process analysis, troubleshooting, and the implementation of new technologies or procedures under the supervision of experienced engineers. This internship provides hands-on experience, helping interns apply classroom knowledge to real-world industrial challenges, and often serves as a pathway to a full-time engineering role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Engineer Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Engineer Intern, you need a solid grounding in chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering principles, often backed by enrollment in a relevant bachelor's degree program. Familiarity with process simulation software (such as Aspen Plus or AutoCAD), data analysis tools, and safety regulations is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and attention to detail help interns excel in team environments and tackle process challenges. These skills and qualifications are crucial for optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring safety, and supporting project goals.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Process Engineer Intern expect during their internship?

As a Process Engineer Intern, you can anticipate working on a variety of hands-on projects that support process optimization, quality improvement, and efficiency initiatives within manufacturing or production environments. Typical responsibilities may include assisting with data collection and analysis, participating in process mapping, supporting root-cause investigations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams such as production, quality assurance, and maintenance. Interns often have opportunities to present their findings and contribute to real-world solutions, providing valuable exposure to daily operations and the chance to develop technical and teamwork skills essential for career advancement.

What is the difference between Process Engineer Intern vs Process Engineer?

AspectProcess Engineer InternProcess Engineer

Our mission is to provide real-time Internet access for space-based assets, enabling a new era of data-driven exploration and innovation. With 33 satellites launched to date, Kepler operates the first commercial optical data relay constellation, enabling real-time, continuous space communications while supporting advanced on-orbit compute and hosted payload capabilities.

Industry-leading technology is only part of the story. What sets Kepler apart is our team: bold thinkers, skilled builders, and passionate problem-solvers who thrive on pushing the boundaries of what's possible in space. We believe great ideas come from diverse perspectives, and we're committed to creating an environment where you can grow, lead, and make a global impact.

If you're ready to reach higher, move faster, and do work that shapes the future space economy - this is your launchpad. Come build the future with Kepler!

What We Offer:
- Build and operate real satellites!
- Get hands-on with cutting-edge space technology and real-world engineering challenges.
- Dedicated mentorship to support your learning and growth.
- Fun and collaborative work environment where you'll learn quickly and feel supported.
- Team-building events and opportunities to connect across the company.
- Fully stocked Toronto office kitchen with snacks, drinks, games, and top-notch kitchen appliances.
- Frequent in-office and company-wide events to stay connected and engaged.
- Make a direct impact on Kepler's growth and success.
- We're a certified Great Place to Work five years in a row.

We invest heavily to deliver high-quality space systems to our customers, and we are looking for a motivated Spacecraft Systems Engineering Intern to join our Satellite Systems team.

As a Systems Engineering Intern, you will support the architecture, analysis, design, verification, and technical coordination activities that enable Kepler's satellite programs. This role is well suited for a student who is interested in spacecraft systems engineering, mission design, requirements, verification, MBSE, and cross-disciplinary technical problem solving. Coding experience is valuable in this role, primarily as a way to support analysis, automate engineering workflows, and improve the quality and efficiency of systems engineering activities.

Responsibilities
  • Spacecraft Systems Engineering: Support satellite architecture, design, and analysis activities across active and early-phase programs, including trade studies, mission analysis, and technical budget assessments for areas such as mass, power, link performance, pointing, coverage, reliability, and availability. Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a centralized source of truth for engineering data.

  • Requirements and Verification: Contribute to the development, management, and maintenance of system and subsystem requirements, verification plans, traceability, and supporting technical documentation. Support the development of tools and processes that improve requirements and verification workflows.

  • Model-Based Systems Engineering: Contribute to model development using MBSE tools, supporting system architecture definition, functional decomposition, interfaces, operational concepts, and requirement relationships.

  • Analysis and Automation: Use coding and scripting tools such as Python, or similar languages to support engineering analysis, automate calculations, process technical data, and improve the efficiency of systems engineering workflows.

  • Cross-Functional Engineering Support: Work with systems engineers and cross-functional teams to prepare clear technical outputs, support design reviews, participate in hardware testing, and communicate analysis results to engineering and program stakeholders.

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, Physics, or a related technical field, with 3+ years completed and returning to studies after the internship.

  • Familiarity with spacecraft systems, mission analysis, and experience with technical budget generation such as power, mass, link, delta-V, etc.

  • Interest in systems engineering activities such as requirements, verification planning, interface control, trade studies, architecture development, and technical documentation.

  • Experience with technical analysis using Python or similar tools.

  • Ability to work with technical data, develop clear engineering outputs, and communicate findings effectively.

  • Ability to work independently on defined tasks while regularly coordinating with mentors and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to leverage AI-assisted engineering and development tools to improve productivity, design quality, and innovation while adapting to evolving technologies and best practices
  • Available for a full-time, 8, 12 or 16 month internship beginning September 2026.

  • Able to work on-site at Kepler's Toronto office (24 Ward Street) at least three days per week.

Bonus Points
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Capella, Cameo, MagicDraw, SysML, or similar modeling environments.

  • Experience on a university design team, CubeSat team, robotics team, aerospace project, or other hands-on technical project.
