Job description

Position Summary:

The Product Development Manager will be focused on research and development of new products in the dietary supplement and nutraceutical space. This individual will be responsible for ingredient functionality and nutrition principles based around specific ingestible delivery forms. The Product Development Manager will work with key departments and individuals to manage the entire product development process from concept to ingredient sourcing to product development to nutritional analysis to final product and production.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure all internal and external customer requirements and requests are understood, prioritized, and fulfilled promptly and accurately.
  • Adhere to company Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge of ingredient functionality to optimize new and existing products.
  • Product development knowledge from bench scale to operation batch scale.
  • Work closely with Procurement to source ingredients by meeting strict company guidelines and requirements.
  • Identify and integrate new and novel ingredients into existing product delivery forms
  • Work with customers on product development based on customer supplied active ingredients.
  • Optimize existing products and processes.
  • Ensure all products meet Quality Assurance compliance and requirements.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with food and ingredient suppliers for best results of new and existing products.
  • Evaluate the nutrition value, color, taste and texture of new and existing products.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in food science, nutrition, chemistry, engineering, or related field experience.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in R&D for food, dietary supplement or pharmaceutical manufacturing required; CPG experience preferred.
  • Specific experience in food or supplement formulation and manufacturing preferred
  • Significant experience with FDA and GMP regulatory standards, focused on 21 CFR Part 111 or 117, preferred.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory practices and testing requirements
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work with allergens as defined by the FDA (milk, eggs, fish, Crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans).

Manager Responsibility:

  • This position may have some hiring, training and supervisory responsibilities.

Travel:

  • Occasional overnight travel as required; should not exceed 20% of time.
