Position Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager Pay Grade:
Position Summary:
Responsible for manufacturing engineering, process development and new product launch of precision machined hydraulic and powertrain components produced from sintered metals.
Scope/Supervision/Interaction:
Develops and evaluates new processes, improves current process capability, efficiency, and overall productivity in all areas of manufacturing with a focus on grinding, honing, turning, and milling of high-volume precision products. Responsible for the programming/troubleshooting of equipment, designing of tools, fixtures, and gauges, and determining process parameters to achieve desired production goals and quality standards.
Essential Functions:
• Develop innovative solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing process design challenges. Develop process plans including production cost development and machine capacity analysis.
• Interacts with product engineering, operations, and quality functions.
• Refine and enhance processes by applying continuous improvement and lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques.
• Recommend product changes/improvement to Product Engineers.
• Assures product and process quality by designing test methods, testing finished product, and confirming process capability.
• Determine root cause of failure using structured problem solving and statistical methods
• Evaluates capital equipment investments and prepares cost justifications. Designs and prepares concept drawings for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment. Manages the overall implementation of assigned capital equipment projects.
• Identifies and implements solutions for issues relating to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Prepares documentation for new manufacturing processes and engineering procedures. Prepares reports summarizing process information and trends.
• Analyze and organize production operations, routings, and sequences.
• Interface between manufacturing process engineers and support groups such as product engineering, tool design, tool room, quality dept., industrial engineering, etc.
• Work with customers on part manufacturability, dimensional capability, and quality
• Shares specialized knowledge with others. Represent company on specific projects, lead and participate on project teams.
• Manage and improve the PFMEA process.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science technical discipline
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 4+ years of related experience.
• Knowledge of grinding, turning, honing and milling processes preferred.
• Proficiency in manufacturing and process engineering system development, quality automotive systems, ISO/IATF Quality Standards, and advanced problem-solving techniques
• Proficiency with CAD design and analysis tools. Experience in application of SPC process control preferred.
• Working knowledge of statistical techniques, data analysis and root cause analysis tools
• Ability to apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
• Ability to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals; exercise judgment in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied. Works collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. Responsive to inquiries from other engineering and business teams
Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):
• Ability to travel to customer or vendor sites.
• Ability to speak and listen to express ideas.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs. following company safe lifting protocol.
• Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals.
