The Position:
Under the direction of the Area Manager, the Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for safeguarding and efficiently directing all processes, people, and resources assigned. Success in this role is determined by the ability to cultivate and nurture a positive team environment; supervising, developing, and guiding team members; uphold quality control operations while emphasizing safety, ethics, integrity, and efficiency; proactively managing risk; and complying ethically with all internal and external policies, specifications, procedures, and standards. Succes in the role is measured by your ability to Certify that all your team members are properly trained and prepared for success.
Responsibilities:
  • Certify that all your team members are properly trained, understand, maintain current certifications for the testing required, and are equipped with the resources to ensure their personal safety and perform their duties as required.

  • Complete and maintain compliance items on time and as assigned in the QCS Compliance Requirements and Reminders database, or as directed.

  • Audit projects, laboratories, and evaluates team members to ensure the testing and reporting is executed effectively, efficiently, safely and in accordance with the specifications and company policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Aware of how our equipment compares with customers' equipment to predict QC/QV variability and risk.

  • Review all test results produced by team members in real-time, analyzing trends. Assist with troubleshooting and implement process control changes and/or corrective actions to minimize risk.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the most current specifications, process control, and material production troubleshooting.

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of HMA plants, paving operations and/or aggregate crush/wash processes, and their impact on test results.

  • Understand the science behind HMA, aggregate, and/or density calculations.

  • Guarantee that all laboratories and/or equipment are calibrated, checked, and standardized per AASHTO R18, the Quality Management System and QC Technician Manual.

  • Continued education under the direction of the Technical Operations Manager to be a compliance expert and take accountability for compliance with the latest specifications, regulations, governing standards and procedures, and production and installation process control.

  • Develop a high-performance culture by leading, mentoring, and motivating a team of technicians.

  • Exercise good judgment to make effective, informed, and timely decisions that align with and support the department's strategic plan.

  • Assess the team's performance and accomplishments and implement improvements and innovations to increase efficiency and work quality.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively train, evaluate and communicate with others.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple and/or complex projects simultaneously.
  • Must be proficient with computers, the Microsoft suite of programs, and an understanding of current technology trends.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.

Preferred:
  • 3+ years of experience in inspection and testing of road and paving materials and construction; satisfactorily directed testing or inspection services, or both, of road and paving materials is acceptable.
  • Holds or is qualified for a current WisDOT HMA-TPC (WI), IDOT - HMA II (IL), or MDOT (MI) certification.
