Job description

Traverse City Shop Manager / Experienced Sign Fabricator

Come Build Badass Signs With Us — and Lead the Shop That Makes Them Happen

Traverse City–based | Full-Time

Are you an experienced sign professional who can do more than just build? Do you take pride in precision, problem-solving, organization, and helping a team keep projects moving the right way?

Good. Keep reading.

Pro Image Design is a family-owned Michigan sign company — not a franchise, not corporate — and one of the state’s leading providers of custom signage, vehicle graphics, and branding. We do everything in-house, from design and engineering to fabrication and installation.

We’re growing and looking for a skilled, driven Traverse City Shop Manager / Experienced Sign Fabricator who can work hands-on in fabrication while also helping lead the team, organize the shop, and keep projects moving efficiently from start to finish.

This isn’t a clipboard-only management role. It also isn’t assembly-line work. This is skilled trade leadership — where your craftsmanship, communication, and ability to keep things on track all matter.

This Job Is for a Certain Type of Person

You’ll love this role if you:

  • Like variety and problem-solving — we rarely build the same thing twice
  • Take pride in clean craftsmanship, tight details, and quality work
  • Can lead by example, not just by giving directions
  • Enjoy helping others stay focused, organized, and productive
  • Understand how to read drawings, build sheets, notes, and project details
  • Can balance hands-on fabrication with shop leadership
  • Want to work for a family-owned company, not a corporate franchise
  • Want to build things you’re proud of — and help others do the same

If you’re dependable, mechanically strong, detail-oriented, organized, and committed to quality, you’ll fit right in.

What You’ll Do

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role focused on sign fabrication, team coordination, shop organization, quality control, and keeping production moving.

You’ll:

  • Fabricate custom sign components using industry-standard methods and equipment
  • Work with aluminum, steel, acrylic, vinyl, substrates, and other sign materials
  • Perform cutting, shaping, assembly, prep, sanding, priming, finishing, and problem-solving
  • Read and follow blueprints, drawings, internal build sheets, and production notes
  • Help turn designs and engineered plans into finished, high-quality signs
  • Coordinate daily shop workflow and help prioritize what needs to happen next
  • Keep projects moving through fabrication efficiently and accurately
  • Communicate with design, engineering, project management, installation, and leadership
  • Help identify roadblocks before they become bigger problems
  • Support, guide, and hold team members accountable in a respectful, productive way
  • Maintain clean, efficient, safe, and organized workspaces
  • Help uphold quality standards before projects leave the shop
  • Manage jobs using basic computer and design/production software
  • Safely lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Hold a valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean record

Skills That Put You at the Front of the Line

We’re especially interested if you bring experience with:

  • Sign fabrication and in-house sign manufacturing
  • Shop leadership, team coordination, or production management
  • Welding and sheet metal fabrication — steel and aluminum
  • Shear, brake, and roll-form metal work
  • Automotive-style priming, sanding, and finishing
  • Reading blueprints, drawings, and internal build sheets
  • CNC fabrication equipment include routers, lasers, folders and channel letter benders
  • Sign assembly and structural fabrication
  • Solid working knowledge of CAD or design-related software
  • Mechanical problem-solving and custom fabrication

What Makes This Role Different

At Pro Image Design, the shop manager is not someone sitting on the sidelines. This person is in the work, with the team, helping make sure projects are built right, stay organized, and keep moving.

You’ll be expected to lead by example, communicate clearly, solve problems, and help create a shop environment where quality, accountability, and teamwork matter.

What You’ll Get

We believe great work deserves great support.

Pro Image Design offers:

    • Competitive pay based on experience and leadership ability
    • Full-time, year-round work
    • Health insurance options
    • 401(k) with company match
    • Paid time off and paid holidays
    • Personal and professional development opportunities
    • A family-owned team environment
    • The chance to build custom projects you can actually be proud of
    • A leadership role with real influence in the shop
