We primarily cover Upstate and the North Country in New York State utilizing our offices located in Rochester, Ogdensburg, and Philadelphia NY along with both our skilled people and technology.

Job Summary

The Business Banking Relationship Manager is responsible for sourcing and building relationships with commercial (C&I) and commercial real estate (owner occupied or investor) clients. This includes developing business relationships, deposit relationships and treasury management services, and loans. 

 Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Manage portfolio & develop new business
    • Solicit new business via execution of the bank’s business calling program and through referral network.
    • Participate in civic and community activities to generate visibility and contact for bank.
    • Meet with new and existing clients to provide solutions for both credit and bank services for commercial and industrial, and commercial real estate businesses.
    • Identify and match bank products and services to customer needs.
    • Maintain knowledge of the bank’s products and services, the market area served, and the banking environment. 
    • Personally resolve or delegate to appropriate bank personnel the resolution of customer questions and servicing needs. 
    • Conduct periodic field inspections of collateral and inventory held by the bank.
    • Maintain active prospecting effort, including identification, qualification and calling; develop active Center of Influence (COI) referral network.
  • Engage with customers and credit approval department 
    • Obtain credit application, tax returns, financial statements, and other information necessary for credit analysis.
    • Perform or coordinate on-site inspections of collateral as needed.
    • Monitor customer’s financial condition, loan performance and repayment history.
    • Work with analysts to determine creditworthiness in accordance with bank credit policies.
    • Negotiate credit terms and repayment schedule within established policy guidelines.
    • Communicate credit decisions.

 Required Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in business development and providing both services and credit to commercial clients. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to conduct productive and meaningful loan discussions and analysis.
  • Good analytical ability to interpret financial information and credit worthiness of applicant.
  • Thrive in a collaborative, high-performance environment.
  • Highly motivated and sales oriented to promote, sell, and refer various bank and non-bank products and services.
  • Proficient or must become proficient in various bank software and MS Office applications.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based in Rochester NY office.
  • Travel for business development and client meetings.
  • Standard business hours with some flexibility required to meet client needs.
